Army uniforms/equipment on ebay?
A quick question.
My son has decided he wants a British Army kevlar helmet from ebay (not sure why, as there aren't many bullets flying around here ).
There are several for sale some of which seem to be from current or former soldiers. (lots of items of army issue equipment 'used')
That got me wondering, do soldiers generally own their equipment, either during active service or after they leave the Army? Is buying anything other than 'Army surplus' on dodgy legal ground?Your thoughts in a reply please. TIA.

They way things are going they probably bought their own, as if they were lucky enough to be issued with one, chances are it would be sub standard

When I left the forces, I had to hand everything that I had been issued with (except shirts) back in - may have changed now.

The only way gear can be kept is if someone is on the reserve list as far as I'm aware and then it's pretty limited. No helmets as far as I'm aware just basic uniform.

Re: Army uniforms/equipment on ebay?
It depends, a lot of it will be surplus, some of it will be items "lost" from the stores, and some of it will be direct from the manufacturer (as long as there's not a contract with the MoD that says it's only to be made for the MoD then it should be fine).
Certain items are illegal to sell, such as SUSAT sights.
If it's an item that has been "lost" from the stores, then it would be illegal to purchase.
Best bet is to ask the seller where they got it from.

Re: Army uniforms/equipment on ebay?
Cheers for the replies.
I was persuaded to bid for it (if anyone asks, we assume it was ex-surplus!) and we actually won, so he is now the owner of a kevlar helmet.
I can hit him harder now j/k
