Anyone know about keeping fish?
I have a fish tank with 3 goldfish in and one little scavenger thing.
But the other day a noticed a teeny tiny snail in the tank quite happily mooching along the bottom of the tank.
What i want to know is, what is it, how did it get there, and should i leave it in there?!

Re: Anyone know about keeping fish?
AFAIK snails in tanks are a good thing, they help keep the algae off the glass, can't really say more than that

Yeah, and they increase filter efficiency, plus the fish can eat them.
I used to like giving mine water fleas to eat, opening the bag and pouring the food in and just watching them chase after them for ages. Much better than the flake food

Re: Anyone know about keeping fish?
Chances are the snail was on one of the plants you introduced to your tank. It's now grown enough for you to see it. I suspect one or two snails isn't a big problem, provided they are eating the algae, rather then the plants themselves. But if they start breeding they'll get unsightly.

Re: Anyone know about keeping fish?
If you want rid of snails in your tank get a bottom feeder like a plek, they'll eat snails all day long.

Re: Anyone know about keeping fish?
My local fish shop sells fancy snails (Apples, Zebras) for a couple of quid each. Very pretty they are too

I used to have a plec in my tank when I was living with the missus, he grew to over 13 inches long, he's still going strong now I think, he used to eat allsorts, he used to love cat meat and lettuce, mind you so did all the other fish, no wonder they were massive, I had clowns for 7 years one was the biggest I'd ever seen, when people used to come to the house they used to be memorised by the size of him, they used to say why can't our fish be as good looking as yours?? There was nothing better than turning the light off and just having the flourescent light on in the tank.

Re: Anyone know about keeping fish?
If the snails get out of hand they can foul the water. But one tiny one won't hurt.

Re: Anyone know about keeping fish?
Two of my Angels laid eggs again tonight - this is their third lot - here's hoping they manage not to eat this lot!
