Having difficulty selling a car, any advice?
Hi all
My dad's been trying to sell his Toyota Avensis for....well a few months now, to no avail
He either gets really low bids, or just no interest what so ever.
This is the contents of the AD we stuck on Ebid etc
Quote:
Toyota Avensis 1800 vvti T2 petrol 54 plate
12000 miles from new.
1 years road tax
Black mat with black int. Pas,abs traction control, stability control, electric mirrors, electric front windows, front, side & curtain air bags, air conditioning, remote locking, alarm & immobilizer, cd, radio & tape player, trip computer.
Full Toyota service history, The two year service done on 12/10/2006.12065 miles on the clock by main Toyota agent.
Toyota warranty till October 2007, First registered 30/9/2004 by main Toyota dealer, on the road 02/01/2005 with 22 delivery miles on the clock.
My car is in really good condition, it has yet to go on a motorway. I am selling due to the purchase of another car.Happy bidding.

We've listed the same thing at least twice on Ebay, three times on Ebid, a few times on the exchange and mart and also the friday ad
The highest he's ever got (from memory) was £5000
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Re: Having difficulty selling a car, any advice?
I would suggest trying autotrader.co.uk. You can specify the region that you advertise in, plus you can put it on the web. I've sold cars on there before without too much hassle. Also, you can see what similar cars are being advertised for, to give you a comparison. Be prepared though: you will get loads of calls from other people selling advertising, or companies who say "We've got 12 people interested in your car. Pay us a fee and you can have their details"; or "We have a buyer, and we are the finance company arranging the funds. Pay our fee and we will arrange the deal". My advice is to ignore ANYONE who isn't a buyer.
Good luck.

Re: Having difficulty selling a car, any advice?
How about joining a Toyota forum and putting it up for sale in their 'for sale' section. Most car forums have them as far as i know

Re: Having difficulty selling a car, any advice?
Personally, I would probably leave out the following:
Quote:
The two year service done on 12/10/2006.12065 miles on the clock by main Toyota agent.
First registered 30/9/2004 by main Toyota dealer, on the road 02/01/2005 with 22 delivery miles on the clock.
it has yet to go on a motorway. I am selling due to the purchase of another car.

Motorway driving is very easy on an engine, so 6000 miles/year on side roads is probably not a great selling point.
As suggested above, try autotrader.

Re: Having difficulty selling a car, any advice?
i would avoid ebay TBH. autotrader is good, and more local, have had much more success on autotrader than on ebay with cars

Re: Having difficulty selling a car, any advice?
How much are you expecting to sell the car for? Do a valuation on the Parkers website.

Now you know the price to ask for, before you put another add in take new pictures and word the add different so it looks like a different seller just so you don't get the chancers trying for a bargain as they can plainly see your dropping the price.
