Property Dispute - Can u help?
My ex-girlfriend's dad has left a set of ladders on my back garden.
I was wondering at which point do these ladders legally become mine, so i can dispose of them.
I've heard 6 months but am not too sure.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

I think you have to make reasonable attempts to make contact and ask him to remove them in a set amount of time, but I could be wrong

Damn.. That sucks then...I recently (2 months ago) split with my partner of 6 years, and she is...you could say has turned into an ex from hell.
She owes me money which i will forget about if i can have the ladders..... I just want to make sure i have legal right to them.

If they are her dads then she has no legal right to give them to you, if she is being that bad then maybe make direct contact with her father about the ladders. Odds are he probably has forgotten about them anyway.

He's not forgotten about them...I'm talking about my legal right to keep them because they have been left on my property for over 6 months.
All i want to know is can i keep the ladders?

Re: Property Dispute - Can u help?
I doubt you can keep them but have you actually made an attempt to get him to remove them from your property?

Re: Property Dispute - Can u help?
Write to him (and keep a copy of the letter) and tell him he has 30 days to remove the ladders from your property or you will dispose of them. I would go talk to the CAB too to see if there is anything else you can do.

Re: Property Dispute - Can u help?
OK, this thread wasn't actually about ladders...i was just wondering about my legal standing too keep the ladders as leverage against my ex-partners blackmail.
Sorry for any deception.

Blackmail? That doesn't sound very nice. Perhaps you might be better asking a solicitor for more specific advice?
Sorry to hear of your troubles though - break ups are not nice, especially if they turn nasty.

Re: Property Dispute - Can u help?
Please do! Many of us have been in similar situations so might be able to offer advice.
Good luck!
