Descale shower head
Hello,
OK- as per title - whats the best way to descale a shower rose?
I've removed the rose from the shower head / handle but it appears to be a sealed unit. Any ideas if it unscrews somehow?
Cheers
Lee

Re: Descale shower head
You could just buy a new one. They can't be that expensive.

Re: Descale shower head
You can buy descaling products off the shelf at supermarkets (For Kettles, Irons, shower heads etc.)
The one I used you put the shower head in a jug, add the descaler and add hot water to just cover the shower head and leave it for 10 Minutes.
Worked a treat!

Cheers - will get some descaler - the GF has descaled the kettle with vinegar before - worked a treat - wonder if it'll work on shower heads!

you shouldn't need to boil it, about 50 degrees celcius should do, boiling vinegar can be a bit pungent - make sure you use distilled or spirit vinegar, or 'non brewed condiment' rather than malt, wine, balsamic etc.

Leaving it in a bowl of Citrus Fruit Juice often does the trick

That's what I do with ours - get a cheap bottle of lemon juice (own brands are bigger and cheaper than Jif lemons!), pour the juice into a small plastic bag (a sandwich bag is ideal), put the shower head into it and squeeze all the air out of the bag. Secure the bag with a rubber band, so all of the shower head is immersed in the juice. Leave overnight and in the morning, all the limescale should be done. Well, if it's good enough for Kim and Aggie, it's good enough for me!

Re: Descale shower head
I was going to suggest suspending it in a kettle with some of that descaler stuff you can get, but others have suggested far better (and probably safer) ideas

Thats what I do with mine, I soak it overnight ina jug of vinegar then in the morning it's like a new shower. The best thing to do is when you've finished in the shower let it run on on hot for about 30 seconds this will clear all the limescale from inside the shower head.

After descaling, can the vinegar then be used for a calcium-enriched salad dressing?
