Someone using an old address!!
Hey everyone,
was looking for some help.....
A friend of mine had a flat mate, and she changed all her banks and mobile, and anything else where money is concerned, to have bill sent to her new address.
Now this person is not living there anymore, but the bill still keep coming in.
My friend has contacted all of the banks and mobiles etc (through mail, telephone and return to sender), to let them know that this person no longer lives there, and to please not send any more bills to her address.
problem is, she is still getting them for that person in her own house.
what can she do to make all of the companies stop sending letters to her, and get her address off this persons accounts, as this may bring her credit rating down.

Either you or her can get in touch with the post office and get them to forward on any post to her new address.
I believe there may be a charge for it but do this temporarily the keep telling the respective companies that the address is incorrect.

Do you know your old flatmates new address or telephone number? If not then all you can do is keep sending them back. Credit blacklisting is done on names and not addresses these days

Re: Someone using an old address!!
main thing is, she not know her forwarding address, but the companies still send them out, she is very worried that she may get her credit down because this girl owes lots of money
ik
p.s. cheers paul, if this is the case she can stop worrying. as this girl has been the bain of my friends life, she wakes her up with crank calls now, but after the new year that will stop, she is getting withheld numbers blocked.

Re: Someone using an old address!!
Just bin them - if the companies haven't updated their records by now that's their look out. You're not allowed to open them but after making reasonable effort (which your friend has by sending them back) you're allowed to bin them.
When I worked at British Gas loads of people used to ring and ask us to change the address of the previous owner but all we could do was add the new address to the account but the wills would continue going out to the address until the debt collection agency was involved. This was due to the DPA and the company not being able to make changes to the account on the say so of a third party. the collection agency on the other hand would write to them at both addresses and eventually find them.

so althought she has contacted the places, eventually they will catch the little blighter?
I have been told that my friend went to deliver a letter to her mums, and her mum went nuts at her (my friend that is) but thats one down, hopefully, it gets sorted, she is very stressed about this, as the girl put her through hell

Re: Someone using an old address!!
If she knows the mothers address then take the easy route and print a load of labels with the address on and when the letters arrive put a label on and throw it back in the post box. The debt collection agency will catch her in the end... especially if she is registered to vote at the new address.

My experience of trying to find someones new address failed, even my contact in the fraud squad could only come up with an address she had never lived at. He was happy to do a bit of digging around for me because he knew the reason I wanted her address.
He supplied me with an address that her credit card statements were going to, but she never lived there. He has had the odd check now and again but 3 years on she is not traceable, I even told him she had left the country and let him know when she had returned, all to no avail because he claimed there was no record of her leaving.
I gave him the list of all the names I was able to find she was using, but obviously she has more names and more passports to choose from. I will catch up with her one day though, even if I need to travel.
