looking for widescreen crt
any ideas where anyone might still sell one? my reasons are below.
lcd is basically a poor mans plasma, bad viewing angles, ghosting and colour reproduction and the sharpness makes pictures look blocky hence the need for hdtv, hdtv on a lcd probably on par with pdtv on a crt. I am not bothered about gained space in the corner of my room and dont need a digital tv since sky digi box does that for me.
Wish I brought one for £150 when sainsburies were doing a deal last summer as since then hardly anyone sells any.
Only need something between 21" and 30"

Re: looking for widescreen crt
It's gonna be hard to find CRT's now. I walked into Dixons and Currys last month and they weren't selling any!

Re: looking for widescreen crt
I'm pretty sure this 'no more CRT's' is just a marketing ploy to sell higher margin products.
I was in Saudi last week, in their equivilent of Comet, as well as loads of massive rear projection, lcds, and plasma, there were tons of different CRTs' - a whole bank about 80 - 100 feet long, stacked 3 high.
No more CRT's, my a*se

True true but do take a look at Sony's X-Black screen - they layer the lcd with a glossy coating.
I have this (Asus PW-201) and am very happy with it.

Re: looking for widescreen crt
Just to add. samsung have brought out a range of CRT's with ultra thin tubes meaning they dont take up as much space...

Re: looking for widescreen crt
I don't think I could go back to CRT again
My first TFT was/is an LG L1915S, somewhat old by todays standards I guess
Hasn't got digital input, only analogue, but it's a lovely monitor
I did a check today on the latest offerings at Ebuyer, they have some NICE 20+ inch monitors for sale now
Especially the Video 7 22? inch one

I am talking about tv rather then monitor but since you mentioned tft.
My TFT isnt a glowing reference for tv, moving mouse causes a small shadow behind it likewise scrolling text does, some colours seem to be poorly reproduced showing that it lacks true colours. I have to look at almost dead on else I get distortion, pain when lying down watching stuff on it as it appears too dark, and a pain when standing up looking at it as appears too light. I had another tft before this which was even worse luckily misco sent it back. It isnt terrible but compared to a crt it is defenitly inferior. There is reasons gamers tend to stick with crt.

Older [more than a couple of years] LCDs are crap, but as long as you check out reviews beforehand, you can get some very nice LCDs. As to the gamer & blurring/streaking argument, I may not be a gamer, but I regularly watch video on my Xerox XA7-19i, & I've never seen any streaking.
As for LCD TVs, Tesco are doing a rather nice 27" for about £380. If I had the cash, & didn't have other things I need to get, I'd seriously consider getting it. The only reason I'd hesitate is the screen size would only be 1" bigger than my current CRT [28" tube, 26" viewable]. I forget the make & model, but I have to go in there today anyway, so I'll have a look.
