Re: Lightest Fag...
To be honest, mate, switching to lights isn't an effective way to try stopping smoking. People who are used to "full fat" cigarettes tend to drag harder on lights, which results in the smoke being pulled further down inside the lungs than previously.

* The tobacco industry’s own documents show that companies are aware that smokers of light cigarettes compensate by taking bigger puffs.

Re: Lightest Fag...
I'm with Gareth.
Smoking so-called "Lights" won't help stop smoking. I don't think they're allowed to call them "Lights" anymore 'cos of what Gareth said - hence "Gold" & "Silver" etc.
Try an Allen Carr book (the stop-smoking guru, not the unfunny camp comedian), or the NHS quitting services.

tell him that smoking is caused by nicotine addiction & that it can be cured, if you give up nicotine
After about three days without nicotine you are cured of the nicotine addiction, the rest of the smoking thing is about habits, imo
To stop smoking - you have to stop smoking

Re: Lightest Fag...
Will power and a POSITIVE DESIRE TO GIVE UP.
You can't force yourself to give up you have to want it badly - just like the craving for a smoke you have to have have the same passion and craving for a smoke free life.
Once you have that drive you can give up no matter how many you smoke.
I gave up a couple of years back based on these principles (used the gum and patches for about a week - body went through a lot of withdrawal symptoms that in my case lasted a month after you give up).
After that you're free as bird to enjoy what food really tastes like(your taste buds come back with a vengeance) and so does your sense of smell and both effects are SHOCKING.
Thing is that a few months later I got a contract and as with the whole work thing bundle decided what a drag would feel like - I didnt like it BUT I HAD THE DESIREE TO WANT TO SMOKE AND FEEL WHAT IT WAS LIKE IN THE GOOD OLD DAYS (Hack up some wickedly sick piece of twisted code whack ctrl-alt-del hard on the keyboard and rush out of the office for a fag and well deserved pat on the back).
Heh what a mistake it took a good few weeks to become a regular smoker again...
Anyway all this typing and stuff : I'm going for a smoke

Re: Lightest Fag...
Light fags or preaching about the perils of smoking doesn't hack it. Your friend must want to give up and have the determination to succeed. Nobody said it was easy. I went cold turkey (after 38 years of 20+ a day) when the surgeon told me I was heading for a massive stroke. I am lucky I had an operation on my neck to unblock the artery (endarterectomy) with 2 days of his diagnosis. My sister however, was not so lucky, she is now in a wheelchair after collapsing at home with a major stroke 2 years ago, she lost the use of both legs and her left arm. Sorry to be such a scaremonger, but if this frightens just one person into giving up, it will be well worth it!

Re: Lightest Fag...
If he wants to give up imo, he'll make the first step. I'm a smoker and gave up for 4 months but fell back into it for personal reasons.

Don't ever give up trying, one day you will succeed! You are both still young, do it while you still have your health. Believe me there was no one on this planet that enjoyed a fag more than me. I never in my wildest dreams did I believe I could do it, but when you are told it's your life or tobacco, there is no competition. One consolation for me was that my daughter was so impressed that I had managed to do it, that she also has managed to kick the habit! It comforts me to know my grandchildren are not breathing in the lethal fumes. Give it another try, go on you can do it!

Re: Lightest Fag...
My grandad used to smoke 40 a day until his lungs gave in and the doctor told him if he didn't quit that would be the end. He quit straight away after being told his chances.

Re: Lightest Fag...
Yeah he has to want to quit no one and I mean no one will ever quit smoking unless they truely want to and apply themselves fully to quiting.I have not smoked a straight or any tobacco for 15 years after being on 20 a day
