As everyone said, report it. With no witnesses it can be hard to prosecute, however, he may be caught on CCTV from the petrol station or elsewhere... However as his kids witnessed it, hopefully the copper will be able to interview them and use that evidence.

Yes report him, he may have previous form for a similar offence for which he was only cautioned but a second offence could lead to a fixed penalty or points on licence.

If you would have driven off to the police station, hitting him with your vehicle in the process, it would have helped give more creedence to your side of the story, however it would mean you might be liable for assault. However, as he clearly started it, that shouldn't be a major problem.

I don't think there is a time limit as such although it's best to do it asap, also I think you are right to go down there rather than over the phone

Report him and just chalk it down to experience.....the main thing is that you got away in one piece and no harm was done......

Not as such... There is a 7 year cap on prosecutions I believe (except for certain crimes like murder and rape). However, the longer you leave to report it, reflects unfavourably on you.

Thanks, I have calmed down a lot now and im so glad I didnt do anything else to make it worse. The thought of christmas family photos of me with a black eye spring to mind. Though thinking about it, its a lot better than christmas pictures of me in a striped jumpsuit because I killed the man!!!

Re: HELP!! I have just been a victim of road rage
Report him, if he's done it to you he will do it to others, he's come close to taking you off the road and then made an attempt to attack you in your car. Also he obviously has no regard to the health of others since he did it with kids in the front of the van.
There are certain types of drivers that need removing from the roads permanently and this ar**hole is one of them

Re: HELP!! I have just been a victim of road rage
IIRC a law came into effect a few years ago with regard to tailgating, again IIRC you can report them for the 'crime' as I think that's what it is classed as since then. Also while your there mention the verbal abuse and threats made to you.
Thats one way to deal with it, the other is, chalk it up to experience

Re: HELP!! I have just been a victim of road rage
I know how you feel being a victim of road rage. The same sort of incident happend to me last year, a car pulled out in front of me, I sounded my car horn, then the driver of the other vehicle started making gestures and pointing to a garage forecout close by. He pulled in, I just carried on. I noticed in my rear view mirror a minute later, the driver speeding to catch up with me. He forced me off the road and pulled up in front of my car, got out and pulled open my car door. At this point he started swearing and telling me to get out of the car so he could kick my face in! I just sat there looking at him. He knew he wasn't going to get a responce from me after a couple of minutes, so he slammed my car door shut, made some more gestures, got in his own car and speed off in the opposite direction.
My advice to anyone who experiences other road users driving badly for whatever reason let them carry on, as you never know what kind of idiot they might be or what they could possibly do.

Just to be awkward and offer different advice to everyone else.
If there were no witnesses and all you really have is his word against yours. Not much will happen to him, you could just be causing a lot of hassle for yourself

Although it could be argued that it may make him think twice before he does it again

Happy thought is, if he did do it again, chances are he might pick on the wrong person!
