Change Of Holiday Information

My parents are due to go to Egypt in a couple of weeks and have had a letter from Thomas Cook re. change of information.

Apparently the hotel beach (normally accessible in a couple of minuted by a free 10min boat) is undergoing work, so they are providing a free bus to a local beach (10mins away).

I don't think the work is an issue as its a little bit away from the hotel, but are they entitled to complain about the change and get some kind of compensation or change hotels ?

I don't know for sure but surely you would have thought that a hotel change ( if wanted ) would be in order, after all, it's not the holiday the paid for so there must be some sort of breach of contract type thing have they inquired ??

Local beach does not equal hotel (i.e. private) beach. You're entitled to equal or better value in your holiday replacements. I believe that's the law, even with circumstances beyond their reasonable control. Your holiday has lost value.

Go back to them and give them hell. I'll speak to my manager later see if there are any phrases that tour ops don't like to hear.

I'm of the same opinion to be honest. I'd personally go as it sounds like there is no noise etc, but just ask for a refund. Shocking to send this letter 2 weeks before they go (its been booked 18 months).

Chances are Thomas Cook didn't get much advance warning. Many of these Egyptian Resorts are open 365 days a year. They're going to have to do maintenance some time. But that's no consolation to your parents.

I'd suggest it's not the fact that it's a different mode of transport involved. It's the public rather than private beach. Public suggests a lack of control over the traders and others who might hassle. If it was an all inclusive type package, how are things like drinks provided?

Difficult to tell from the OPs wording, but the 'local'/alternative beach may be private as well?
