Which Bank Has The Best Security?
OK, I want to leave HSBC as i think their security procedures stink, the latest idiocy being me reporting a transaction which i thought might be dubious (it wasn't) and them telling me they were unable to monitor transactions on my card. seems like even if you have a concern and report it, they still want the punter to shoulder the risk.
this may be a problem with all banks - anyone know otherwise. i'm not talking internet banking, just plain old branch/telephone.

Wise move leaving HSBC, there was a whole furore not so long ago when somebody in their Bangalore call centre was arrested for selling on customers details.

Buy yourself a fireproof safe. Dig a hole deep down and cement it in.
Advantages: No spammy junk mail in the post to you. You know where your money really is. No long queues or talking to call centres abroad, no bank charges, etc.
I may have to consider this one day....once I actually have some money lol.

Re: Which Bank Has The Best Security?
DO NOT use Halifax.
We dont get any bank statements of them, however all other letters arrive promptly. They then cancel the wifes account, without warning, saying they had received returned mail.
When we complained they said it was not because of returned mail it was a mistake, could she pop into branch with some ID to confirm she existed?
She did, week later her credit card was cancelled by the bank.
Halifax have an account moving service, they transferred my DD, way before I was ready to move my wages, They gave me a temp £1000 overdraft, I complained several times that they were paying out on bills when I had not moved my wages over yet (waiting till end of month), once my over draft reached £1000 they changed it to £200 and started applying charges without warning.

that was the day after i last had a row with them.... over call centre security. the glasgow situation also shows how important having good security procedcures is eg not having staff members asking for two of the six numbers from your security code.

I've always found NatWest OK. Online banking has always been good (although a hassle to reactivate the couple of times I've locked myself out lol), phone banking requires the usual security. They've also put a hold on my card & phoned me up straight away when they've noticed what they thought were dubious transactions.

I've never had a problem with them either, first class service although I have heard other members of this forum moaning about them

Re: Which Bank Has The Best Security?
I've never had any problems with Abbey - they were particularly helpful when my house was broken into and all my cards, cheque card etc were stolen - they got me replacements in double quick time. They do have call centres 'abroad' though, although they have always been quite good too.
Paul banks with NatWest now - again no problems. Don't touch Barclays with a bargepole - he had no end of problems with them, and will be paying particular attention to the 'reclaim your bank charges' thread with regard to them!

Re: Which Bank Has The Best Security?
I'm currently with abbey, but leaving due to poor treatment when my card was skimmed.
I have a joint account with my housemate with Lloyds TSB and their security seems much better. When logging in, they ask you for memorable info and certain characters - each time its different. Somehow feels safer than always putting the same info in

Re: Which Bank Has The Best Security?
conflicting reports on abbey have me confused
security is the big issue for me as i think hsbcs procedures, not their people, are bobbins. i've generally found the telephone banking good etc but they seem unable to understand what i regard as legitimate concerns about their iffy security. what i don't know is if the other banks are as complacent (bear in mind i won't touch internet banking. and yes, i am paranoid )

Re: Which Bank Has The Best Security?
Balclays were one of the first to implement their online system. They seem to be solid plus they guaranty to refund you all the money if anything goes wrong online.
