Acceptable proof of no claims?

Have recently renewed my car insurance with a different company and have been sent my written request to send off proof of no claims.
Only problem is I thought My motor insurance certificate would be adequate proof, however, after examining the document I cant see anything that says how many no claims bonus I am entitled to. Is this acceptable, will they just use the policy numbers to check with my previous insurer or is there some other document I should have?

Re: Acceptable proof of no claims?

The official required document is that call the 'Renewal Notice' You can tell which document this is because

a) it has 'Renewal Notice' written on the top and
b) it has a 'Temporary Covering Note' on it.

If you don't have this you will have to go back to your old insurers

Have a look on the back of it, mine had no mention on the front but it's in the small print on the back

Doh, actually turned out to be on front of the renewal page, must have read it about 20 times and managed to miss it everytime.

Thanks, it was on the renewal notice, though there is no temporary cover note included. Checked the one from the previous year and this had the cover note.

Re: Acceptable proof of no claims?

Before I got my car we hadn't been insured for 3.5, nearly 4 years, we went back to the same brokers and they gave us the same insurance company who gave us the 2 years no-claims that we had way back when.

Re: Acceptable proof of no claims?

Just a couple more questions.
There is an envelope provided, There is a number one on the top right of the letter I guess that means I have to affix a stamp as it is not freepost right? I dont post things off much as im sure you can tell
Also the letter I have says to send off my proof of no claims, Do I just put the relevant document in the envelope and post it or do I need to include something? like a written letter a policy number or the original letter?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Acceptable proof of no claims?

I'd make sure you put a covering letter in with your current (new) policy number on it. Insurance offices are just too big, and they probably woudln't even know why they got it otherwise.

Keep a photocopy of whatever you send, for your own records.

A number 1 on the front of an envelope usually means it's prepaid (there should also be on the left top something like "Response Licence No #####) - no stamp needed.
