Car crash by my house
Just had a car crash down the road from me. Two fire engines, police and a ambulance. Just noticed the Gas company are on board to as apparently the car his something to do with gas. Most of my road is taped off.
Would could the car of hit. I presumed Gas was all underground?

Re: Car crash by my house
Has the car hit a lamp post etc that might be installed near to a gas main? Taking the post out could have impacted the gas main.

Where are you? Apparently there was something similar on the A1 / A46 this evening that was serious enough to get a guy who I work with (who lives in Grantham) looking for the nearest Travel Inn to work, 'cos it would take hi about 4 hours to get home

Re: Car crash by my house
As Paul said, he probably hit a lamp-post. They do go underground quite deep with foundations and stuff. If it was hit, it could have pivoted at gound level, which mean the underground foundations could have shifted. Meaning it could rupture a gas main.
Could be talking b*****ks, but you never know, could be right

I hope it's not the North Midlands, cos I've got to go to Sheffield tomorrow, and that's only up the road

As Paul and punky said, it's probably someone who's hit a lamppost and disrupted one of the gas pipes - shouldn't actually be that much of a problem to fix. You might want to stand back a bit when they burn the excess gas off though
EDIT: Ooh look at that - 7000 posts

Re: Car crash by my house
I remember when something like that happened on the main road at the end of our road. There is some sort of Gas pumping station at the end of our road, When someone crashed there, the Police and Ambulance cleaned up, but the Gas Board turned up with so many spotlights that it was like Daylight (this was about 1 in the morning) and the f***ers were repairing it until about 6am, and making an awful lot of noise.
Not the mention the large explosion that night as someone (while repairing the Gas pumping station) apparently pushed a Pneumatic drill through the Electricity mains. (lot that that affected me, but all the lights on the other side of the main road went out)
And, to cap it all, I had work the next day.

Re: Car crash by my house
Has it hit a pipe where it comes out of the ground to enter a property?
There was an incident further down the road from my house years ago where a lorry caught a gas pipe going up the front garden wall to a property.
