Recalling a Paypal payment
Quite simply, can I do it? I bought something off Ebay yesterday and paid for it through paypal but the seller won't dispatch the item until it 'clears' in to his bank (which is about 5 working days) so what I want to do is recall the payment and send a PO instead - can it be done?

Re: Recalling a Paypal payment
you should be able to 'view transaction' in your paypal account, and cancel it from there - sorry can't be of more help - I haven't used ebay etc. in months!

Re: Recalling a Paypal payment
u can Open a Dispute but the only option u have is once open u have to wait for the seller to reply
Item dispute: I did not receive an item I purchased, or the item I received is significantly different than the item the seller described.
Unauthorised transaction: I did not authorise this transaction and I believe someone has accessed my PayPal account without my knowledge.

If the payment has been authorised by paypal then it's as good as his money, it's only Paypal you have to blame for the delay in sending the money to the sellers account, they don't take their time in taking out of your account.
When I sell something via Ebay as soon as I get the payment recieved mail from paypal I send the goods.

Re: Recalling a Paypal payment
The seller can issue a refund and then the transaction will be clear again for you to send payment.

OR, you could kindly send the seller some information and tell him he doesn't have a clue what he's doing since there is no need for him to wait til it's in his bank.
In fact forget that, send him here i hate people like that

Re: Recalling a Paypal payment
Erm, yes there is. Could I guess that Russ has paid this with what is effectivly an electronic cheque. His paypal account does not have a credit card to back up the transactions on the account? If that is the case and the account was unfunded then it will take 5 days before the money is marked as avaiilable in the recipients account.
If Russ adds a a credit card to his account as a backup guraranteee payment method then the payment will clear straight away.

It doesn't matter if the seller clears out his account or not, if Russ decided to claim for a chargeback and was successful then Paypal would give Russ the money anyway, and the seller would owe it to Paypal- and Paypal are known for being heavy on the debt collecting etc...
Anyway Russ, i'd just wait the 5 days if the seller wants to be a twerp, by t the time you send a Postal Order etc it'll probably work out the same- but if you do make sure you send it Recorded and don't lose the tracking number in case he tries to sting you for more money.

Re: Recalling a Paypal payment
Cheers everyone but it now looks like the guy is willing to do business tomorrow instead of waiting for the money to hit his bank account.....

Re: Recalling a Paypal payment
while we are on about ebay paypal how quick are issues resolved i paid for an item on the 30th oct and still have not recived it this is the first time this has happened emails been sent first one i got a reply then diddly squat. The thing is its a private seller you cant view feedback thats daft why bother with feedback when you cant view it won't be doing that again.

The seller has 7 days to respond to a dispute i think, after that you automatically get your money back.
And don't buy from sellers with private feedback- they can only be hiding something bad

Pia, this isn't true in all cases. I got shafted by Paypal over a fake Item that was sold to me. the guy cleared out his account and I got left with nothing.

You're sort of right actually, sorry i didn't mention that to be sure of a refund you should check every listing on the right hand side for the Buyer Protection eligibility logo. If the seller isn't eligible to offer buyer protection then you as the buyer is then diverted to Standard Seller Protection, but Paypal take a £15 admin fee for this even if the refund cost isn't that much.

I am sure the delay is with our banks not the other way considering outside of uk the delay is a lot lower then 5-7 days.
