Look what's happened to the Cutty Sark..

I was quite surprised to find when I got out of work the other day that the Cutty Sark (which is just outside where I work) was in pieces (see attachment).

Luckily, it's all part of the massive renovation of both the ship and surrounding area.

Now, I knew about the project to renovate the ship (the department I work for has been running stress simulations on a computer model of the cutty sark as part of this), but I was quite surprised to find they were starting by dismantling the ship..

She'll re-open in 2008!!! I hope there are no pieces left over when they've finished.

I bet she'll be a magnet for tourists in 2012.

Yes, I know...I just wondered how long it would take for someone to correct me.

Not long at all, as it happens. LOL

EDIT: If they keep taking it apart it will be nothing more than firewood

I remember visiting it quite often when I was a Kid growing up in South London. I hope they put it back together ok.

Is the Gypsy Moth still there?

good question, I've not been there for over 18 years - Stu?

I used to like the brilliant circular lift down to the foot-tunnel

The Cutty Sark is a grand ship & I'm pleased she is being restored, but does look strange with the masts unstepped.

Gypsy Moth used to be at Greenwich I think, but when i went there a couple of years ago it had been removed for renovation itself...

In the Maritime, ships sail on the surface, submarines (which are boats) sail beneath the surface.

Well, after years, and a lot of money, the Ship is coming together and being slowly unwrapped.
