How the freaking heck do you clean a chocolate fountain?
Mrs T came home with one of those chocolate fountain machines last night. She was running the youth club and somehow it's her job to clean it and return it to the person who lent it next week. We chipped bits off it and ate them until we were sick last night but now we have to actually clean it properly. We have no instructions and no idea how to take it apart. Has anyone got one of these things, or had any experience of using them? How do you clean solid chocolate off something anyway?

I was trying to think of the pros and cons of buying one of these and could only think of the pros. You just came up with a con sufficient enough to put me off.
A rep for you....

Fasten it to top of your car and drive it through a car wash ?
no one said it had to be in one piece when you handed it back just clean

4. Is the Chocolate Fountain hard to clean?
Answer: No. The top part of the Fountain will completely dismantle into five separate parts, so you can put it into your dishwashing machine. Then dry thoroughly with a towel. The base has the motor and the electrical cords so you can not immerse the base into water. You will have to scoop or pour out all the excess chocolate into an empty container. You can then pour clean water into the base to clean the bowl and then clean the remaining outer base with wet towels. It is quick and easy.

Put it anywhere near my missus and it would be licked clean in minutes....
I worry about those things... all that dust, and hair, and shed skin, and sneezes floating up to that sticky mass...

The steel top piece came off the three spindles it was sitting on all in one piece, once I'd hacked away enough chocolate to free it. Then I had to immerse that in very hot water to melt the chocolate still inside and free the Archimedes screw thingy that transports the chocolate from the bottom to the top.
All in all somewhat simpler than I thought. It would have been fairly straightforward if I'd had the instructions.

Only the base heats up, most of the remaining chocolate was stuck in the central rising corkscrew thing.

That's Ikea plastic children's cutlery, which we used to scrape chocolate off it for eating last night when Mrs T got it home. We didn't want to use anything metal on it in case we scratched it. It's not ours!
