CRB check
Why the hell does it take so long? I've never known an agency take their time in getting a hold of your records, when the police used to do it we used to get them back within 2 weeks, mine has been in for over 4 weeks now and nothing has come back as yet, all the forms still go to the police via Capita in Liverpool then the police send the back to Capita who then send them on to you. honest I've never known an agency as slow as this one.

Really? Try the CSA.
You think that's taking a long time, just try to get a CRB done if you have lived in both England and Scotland. You would have thought Scotland had already won independence, the difficulty the English and Scottish agencies seem to have talking to each other. Missus got done prior to starting some voluntary youthwork and it took about 12 weeks.

Re: CRB check
We have to get lots done in work - the shortest was 3 months, the longest - 7 months! By that time the person concerned had got fed up with waiting and got a job at Tesco!

Why does it take 3 months though, like you said people got fed up and got another job elsewhere, people are waiting to work but the CRB are holding them up, like I said when the police did the checks on their own we used to get them back within 2 weeks, since Capita became involved they are taking anything up to 3 months, it's for the same check only with another firm involved.

Because they are a room full of pen-pushing bureaucrats and nothing will change for them whether they do it quickly or slowly ... so why should they bust a gut in the name of 'efficiency' and 'customer service'?

Can't fault you on that one Chris, this department was created out of nothing for the purpose of extracting money from the general public who need this CRB check to gain employment, the best thing about it is my CRB doesn't run out till next July but because I've been out of the trade for over a year I need another CRB check at a cost of £36 and until it comes through I can't work.

Re: CRB check
they prioritise them as well so it depends on the reason for the check, or at least they used to.
you can call them up and try to sweet talk them into speeding yours up

Re: CRB check
You should try gaining defence security clearance, when I got mine a few years ago I was lucky and it came through within a month. Others I know in recent times have waited 12 months for SC and been at the point of being dismissed from their jobs, indeed some who were not UK born were dismissed because the clearance took too long.
I had a couple of special clearances and they took about 6 months, which is silly as I already had SC. Fortunately my current job only requires SC, I wouldn't like to go for DV clearance and get put under the spotlight and beaten with the rubber hose.

bluddy pandering to the gays if you ask me
theres no doubting the tardiness of the crb (my partner waited a fair old while) but at the same time i watch on with incredulity at those who also attack the alleged laxity of checks on paedophiles. if someone abused somebody because a crb check was rushed through then they i'm sure would be the ones immediately up in arms.
like i say though, the workload of the crb should be effectively managed, no matter how big it now is.
