Vote For BBC World Service Presenter
this is a competition to find a continuity announcer for bbc world service's generation from among five school pupils. pretty impressive standard - not sure how nervous i might be faced with the prospect of being heard by 40 million people
http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/pr...inalists.shtml
ps. not sure if in the right forum here. if a mod wants to move.....

Oh i say... they all strike me as very upper class.
I haven't listened yet though lol...

Darryl, very good, but his voce isn't distinct enough for me.
Katie, hmmm sounds like she's trying too hard.
Dan, i like him not as good as Darryl though.
Sophie sounds a little bit like a young newsreader to me, she's quite good.
Jack sounds like he could be doing a piece on Newsround.
I've voted for Darryl
And you're right, good on them for doing so well it must be nerveracking.

i couldn't do it. mind you got interviewed by local radio a few times earlier this year and did ok. i think adrenaline and anger got me through though. if i had to say "and now next on BBC World Service etc" i'd need about a billion takes.

Re: Vote For BBC World Service Presenter
I'll give them a listen later.
For the moment, I don't recognise any of those names and I've not heard anything about this until now. Didn't the BBC didn't think to put the word out in the radio industry and especially to smaller/community-based stations where lots of teenagers work?
They all seem like fairly British names and I imagine they are all British. Maybe it's just me, but something tells me this hasn't been conducted in the right way at all.
There are some very talented young presenters out there who've worked hard to get where they are (and not all of those are that young!).

i think it was a schools initiative and that they approached schools who had hosted their own restricted license stations before. tbh dont know much about community stations worked by young presenters but how young are you talking? these all seem to be schoolkids.

Use Real Alternative instead of RealPlayer.
There's also a Quicktime Alternative on that site.

Hmm World service eh? Does anyone listen to the world service ? Time was when they only used to broadcast on shortwave. I used to listen to broadcast stations around the world on my trusty Kenwood TS850S
http://www.rigpix.com/kenwood/ts850s.htm
It made a refreshing change from all the very samey stuff that was pumped out on local fm radio i.e pop/sport/pop/sport blah blah blah
Unfortunately i moved house and its now boxed up under the bed. I still yearn for those days of scouring the short wave and listeneing to tales and everyday lives in distant places...lets hope digital radio doesnt totally kill real radio..
