Buying an Oven..
Where have all the showrooms gone?My local High Street doesn't appear to have one anymore.Niether does Fareham Shopping centre.I can find ONE in my town but that's in Alverstoke Village with the worst parking I've seen anywhere so to get to it I'd have to park in Stokes Bay and walk to the village.
Otherwise I've to go to the North end of Portsmouth which is a nightmare since I don't know the area anymore since I moved out over 30 years ago and I never go there because driving and parking there is a nightmare(Zoned Parking).
There was a time when I could find at least half a dozen pages in Thompsons or the Yellow Pages devoted just to showrooms for ovens of all shapes and sizes. That was about 5 years ago.I know folk shop online a lot more BUT there is a place for a shop on the high street surely especially dealing in something as specialist as this.An oven is an important item that I want to investigate fully BEFORE purchasing because I have to live with it for some while.
I guess that with so many people buy kitchens now with an oven supplied as part of the furnishings that I'd be better trying to look in the MFI up at Segensworth.
So I guess if anyone can recomend a good oven from a good site online that does good deals on ovens and can supply me pretty quickly in the Portsmouth to Southampton area I'd be grateful. At the moment I've no idea how to proceed except to go to Northend by public transport because I am not driving around that area.

Re: Buying an Oven..
 start of rant
Don't buy one from B and Q.... i bought and paid for one and they arranged delivery... only they never showed up. So i took another day off work for the rescheduled delivery (number 2) and guess what? They never showed up. So i took a third day off for delivery date number 3 and..... yep you gussed it - no show.
At no time did they call me to let me know it wasn't going to be delivered. In fact they called to confirm delivery on all 3 occassions.....
The call centre was a joke on all 3 failed deliveries i was told the goods had not been loaded onto the lorry - and when i said "the service is just a bloody shambles" the guy refused to speak to me anymore because i was "being abusive and foul mouthed" and ended the call!
Anyways i cancelled the order and wrote 3 letters to the CEO, got a crappy response saying sorry, but no vouchers or anything... Chuffing B and Q, now every time i visit a store i go to the section selling those number and letter stickers for your front door and write out rude messages ha ha ha childish i know but i feel better every time!
I went to my local 'euronics' shop and got the same cooker for £25 more. Money well spent.
'end of rant'

Re: Buying an Oven..
Not sure about which model to recommend, but if you find one (in Currys or Comet) CoopElectricals did a good delivery job on a dishwasher & fridge freezer recently.
As for which cooker, Which? is usually my starting point - half an hour down the library reference section if you don't subscribe.

I bought a built-in fan oven and gas hob from Wickes... dirt cheap but I'm very happy with it...

Re: Buying an Oven..
I can highly recommend this oven from this site...
http://www.365electrical.co.uk/servl...ctId=B1422W0GB
I bought from there and its been great delivery was really quick and they kept me informed during the whole process including a phone call to arrange delivery.
However there are tons of ovens on that site if you wish to look.
You can also try here:-
http://www.biasco.com/
My mum has bought from that site (same oven as well) after seeing my one, the dilivery from here was also excellent.

Re: Buying an Oven..
I understand Coggy's point. Like the (British) Gas Showrooms. You can't compare looking at a picture to be able to look at the actual thing - check the build quality and suitability for your needs. I think it's a symptom of a modern age - Internet and catalogue shopping.
I bought my last oven online, in an auction, but I had a look around Comet first - see what was on offer. It has a crease in a side panel (not seen), so I got it considerably cheaper.

Maybe they all moved to my small town, Addlestone. 4 separate independent retailers here. : shrug:
I was surprised to see that the big Currys in Staines has closed though.
Have you got a Tesco Extra near you Incog? They've started doing household appliances.

Re: Buying an Oven..
I'd recommend Stoves too. The Gas Hob/Elec Oven combination is the best!
Our second oven (Our first was a blue Stoves one which didnt go with the new kitchen and therefore had to be replaced) was bought from comet, another standalone one with 6 hops and a massive oven, and we've had no problems with it at all and we've had it 2 years.

Re: Buying an Oven..
Comet are good (if you find a large out of town one). We have a Cannon (nothing to do with Canon) gas oven and hob, and TBH, we don't use it as an oven much, as we have a DeLonghi combination Microwave/Grill/Oven that cooks small meals with far less hassle and much more quickly. Obviously, the Gas oven still gets used for any large meals.

I have to admit, the main reason I went for Delonghi is that years ago, I worked in a hospital catering department that (at that time) catered for 600 patients and God knows how many staff a day. The head chef there, given the choice, always went for DeLonghi equipment.

Re: Buying an Oven..
We bought one of these earlier this year and bought it from this company too. They offer very competitive prices, their customer service was very good to. We ordered a number fo items and got a good price, however i mistakenly ordered the wrong colour fridge freezer and they exchanged it with no question.
