one for the eye experts out there

hey everyone,

ok strange question, mainly looking for salu's knowledge or anyone that has had this.

I kept waking up last night and my left eye seemed to be glued shut with very sticky "sleep" i would move my eye around, and pull off the sticky "sleep" from my eyelids and eyelashes. this happened all night, and when i woke up to drive my mum to work, my left eye did not seem to work properly as if it was lazy. the eye was still feeling dry and sticky for most of the day and is still red and bloodshot, now it seems normal but still bloodshot.

does anyone know what this is?
if it happens again, is there anything i can buy over the counter to help cure this?

thanks
ik

Re: one for the eye experts out there

Sounds like an infection to me. Go see a doc or an ophthalmic optician.

Re: one for the eye experts out there

I think Brolene eye drops are ok to use in the interim, but you MUST go and see a doctor - eye infections are not nice and the longer you leave them, the harder they are to get rid of, you need proper antibiotics.
Hope it gets better soon.

i would agree with rammy.... definately sounds like some sort of eye infection. i would make an appointment with your our GP. also i know it is incredibly hard but do not touch your eye or rub it, and if you do by accident make sure you dont then touch the other eye, you dont want to infect that too.

Re: one for the eye experts out there

Optrex Infected Eye should help, as they say it sounds like conjunctivitis - also important though is if you wear contacts, leave them out while this is happening, and yes, you need to see an opthalmic optician just to be sure.

Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly after using whatever solution you choose and DO NOT CROSS INFECT YOUR OTHER EYE..

I agree with what has been said here, the most important thing is do not leave it you need to get it (excuse the pun) seen to

Or anyone else in your house. Make sure you stick to your own towels for a while.

Re: one for the eye experts out there

well after the student doctors questioned me, they all said they have never done the eye before, so the supervising doc looked.

Conjunctivitis, i got eye drops to keep in the fridge, and ordered to have my own towel hehe

cheers people

Re: one for the eye experts out there

Must be the time of year - my eye was swollen, painful and red this morning! Got some Brolene drops to see how it goes - I can't have the over the counter antibiotic drops as I've allergic to chloramphenicol
I hate anything to do with eyes.

Mmmmmm - but I'm such a coward, I'll give them a go and see how it is by the end of the week - if only I could use the drops that Boots sell!
