[Merged] Fireworks 2006
I'm amazed, weekend before bonfire night and we've escaped this thread, until now
Is it me or has it been quieter this year. Not so many idiots letting the things off every night over the last couple of weeks. Only one really late night bang, most being at "sensible" times of night?
Or is it the calm before armageddon?
Personally, I'm looking forward to Saturday . Weather forecast looks cold and crisp but clear. Should be ideal for some mega pyrotechical banging whizzing things. Previous do's have been more than visible 1/2 mile away. Can I surpass myself this year? Maybe I ought to hand out the ear defenders to the neighbours

Oh I
Not much banging here - occasionally, a gang of kids will let off a few bangers as they go up the street. Seen one or two rockets lighting the sky, too. I'd like to know where the money comes from. I was in Costco and it was around £40 for one firework
When I was young, bonfire night was on the 5th November. These days, bonfire night can go on all week. This year it'll be Friday, Saturday and probably Sunday.

Re: Fireworks 2006
Personally, I like the Dutch approach. Fireworks in Holland is a new years thing. Sale of fireworks to the general public is limited to the 3 working days before Jan. 1st. Officially, you're only allowed to set them off between something like 8 pm on New Year's Eve and 2 or 3 am on Jan 1st but you will obviously get some fireworks outside this time slot.
Come midnight on New Year's Eve, the roof goes off. Everybody (and *lots* of people buy fireworks) sets off their fireworks at the same time. Complete mayhem in the sky for about 30 minutes. After that it peters out, though many a bang will be heard throughout the night.
New Years Eve in the UK is a little lackluster imo...

Re: Fireworks 2006
Our local MP Shona McIsaac was responsible for the current firework bill, it is better, recently, here at least

Re: Fireworks 2006
There's been a bit of publicity on the radio about Enfield council issuing £80 fines for anyone setting off fireworks afte 11:00pm. Not unreasonable in my view.

Re: [Merged] Fireworks 2006
Lot of banging going on at the moment - including two or three massive explosions. The first one was unexpected - chucked my dinner (chicken and rice) all down my front. Men for - size issues

New Year 2000 was like that round here, it was like a war zone.

Yes, some people here do (which is nice), but it remains rather muted compared to what I grew up with. Mind you, the war zone scenario is absolutely terrifying for lots of pets/babies etc...
