The Male Pill
The Male Pill. Basically you put it in your shoe..... and it makes you limp.......(Boom Boom)..
http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6091582.stm
What do you think to this new breakthrough and the concept of the male pill in itself?
Time to put the burden of contraception onto the male a bit more fairly now? Do you think this is wrong and the Pill should be something that the women should take? Are you uncomfortable about chemical contraceptives, should contraception be adjunct only ie condom/coil etc?

Re: The Male Pill
By the time you can trust someone else with contraception you are probably in a committed relationship where the next thing you will worry about is fertility (or lack of) for sensible procreation.

Re: The Male Pill
I think everyone has a responsibility, not just one half of a partnership. i don't want to be with someone who thinks its my job to take care of the contraception etc.

Re: The Male Pill
I believe that the "burden" should be shared equally, if possible and appropriate.
My wife was on the pill before we decided we wanted kids, then between kids, but after bouncing baby number two, we discussed it, and decided I should take responsibility, as she was having some (minor) side effects from the pill.
This I did happily, until after a few years, I took the "two bricks" step.
I think contraception is just about options and responsibility - in a relationship, this should be shared (imho).

Re: The Male Pill
Just to introduce slightly different angle here. Would you all prefer a chemical solution to a surgical one. Swallow or snip, as it were....

Re: The Male Pill
I actually think both partners should take it as a precation incase one of you miss one of your pills, that way you will still be protected. Sort of like using a condom if your partner misses a pill only much more pleasant. That is unless there are any major negative side effects.
Like for example, loss of labido could be seen as a big one (excuse the punn) especially if it means one of you cant perform rather than simply not being in the mood.

Considdering the snip is completley reversable now I dont think there is a lot of difference to be honest. Though I think as males we all have a certain complex about someone going near our scrote with a knife so I think the chemical option may well be the preffered.

After you have been married a while, you get used to being emasculated (only joking).
It depends....... I had been married before (with two kids from that relationship), and we had two kids; my wife and I didn't want any more children, so the "two bricks" seemed the simplest solution - saved messing about with "just hold on a minute, fumble, fumble, rip, "b*gger!", fumble, fumble, ok, where were we?"

Re: The Male Pill
we've actually been discussing this at work, the general consensus seemed to be that it would be a good idea. the only concern that we had was that people who were sleeping with new partners, both of whom we're on a contraceptive pill, may be less likely to use barrior forms of contraception because the risk of unwanted pregnancy would be low risk.
however, if it was the same as the mini pill, having to take it within an hour of the same time each day i wonder how many men would remember to take it?

Re: The Male Pill
Not that I'll ever need it but I feel uneasy about the idea - can't explain why. It does have shades of the Dr Mengele about it though.

Re: The Male Pill
I'd take it. Even if you trust your partner, that doesn't stop her deceiving you/trying to trap you, nor does it stop the pill failing if its taken properly.
Regardless of what girlfriend i'd have, i'd take it for my own peace of mind. My mother bred into me that if I don't want a kid for whatever reason then I should take my own precautions. If I don't, i'd only have myself to blame, whatever the reason. Its the only way to be 100% sure.

Seriously though, the responsibility of contraception and protection should weigh equally on both sides, you should never just jump in with both feet unless you have your wellies on Around certain areas of the country I would like to see the implementation of this medication into the water supplies

Re: The Male Pill
It's a good idea, but i don't think i'd trust a lot of fellas my age to take it.
The way i see it, i'll be the one who ends up pregnant so i'll make sure i don't. But then i probably think that way because i've encountered a certain breed of male species who don't actually care whether they get someone pregnant or not
I can imagine a lot of men thinking it's an alternative to using condoms- if i was with a man on the pill in a new relationship i still wouldn't go there without a barrier contraceptive

A good point. The pill stops (well, reduces the chances of) pregnancy, but doesn't do anything about a whole load of sexually transmitted diseases (including HIV).
