No, not the amount - I doubt we'll ever see a pay-per-poo charge. It's something to do with a standard charge for clearing waste from your pipes (which sounds a bit like a laxative really), plus maintanence for it all.

It's proportional to the amount of water you use (if you have a water meter) or proportional to your rates...

Re: Water Bill
Should your house ever flood with raw sewage <cough>, it pays for the nice chaps to come out, clean it all up, and find out how it happened.

Re: Water Bill
If you want a discount then take the water from your roof and pipe it into water butts. You can get a rather decent size discount for that. If you can tuse it all just dump it in the garden.

Won't apply to every house. That assumes your rainwater pipes connect into a combined (foul and surface water) sewer, so it becomes waste water that has to be treated. Many houses use soakaways (pits in the garden), or may have two separate systems, one foul one surface, so that the surface stuff doesn't need treatment. Of course in a clay soil based area soakaways don't work very well

Re: Water Bill
So basically it's just a charge for the removal of waste water...as said on the bill!
