From Russia with love?
Just finished watching a video of a program I taped on Tuesday 3rd Oct on channel 4 called Diary of a mail order bride. It was quite an eyeopener. Apparently Russian women outnumber the men by 10.5 million, the gender imbalance was caused by the death rate in WW2 of Russian men. The subjects in the documentary are an English man of 50 or so, and a young woman half his age. He has only met her once before, but is engaged to her, and has invited her over to stay with him (she has a 6 months pass). He has nothing going for him IMO, (even his house is a tip) but she is very attractive. He gives her a kiss at the airport when she arrives here, and you can see she is not too keen.  Some lovely looking women in the film.

Didn't she go back before the 6 months was up, too? There were another couple of blokes featured too, I think one of them ended up getting married to a Russian girl, even though they'd only met twice!

I caught bits of it but it was too awful to watch.

Yes, but I think she came back again, will have to watch the tape again to find out. I think she knew he would look after her, he used to send her £60 a week/month when the average is £40 week/month in Russia. She wasn't daft though, because she had a degree of some kind. Cynical thought, how many get themselves an English husband, then once they have got their English Citizenship look for someone more to their liking?
