Ebay question

Ok i paid for a item on the 1st august and still not recieved.

I have emailed him and got this reply

Quote:
It was sent Recorded 1st class delivery on Friday, I made a special journey to ensure you got it Saturday / Monday.

If you want proof I will gladly photocopy the document so that I cannot be to blame for the item not arriving, although the post where I live does not usually arrive until Midday, I don't know if it is the same where you are!

Steve
So now i have been waiting for 8 days would it be the right time to enter a claim with paypal about this?

Thanks

Re: Ebay question

Ask him for the tracking number, recorded items have a tracking number used to track the item. If he provides it and you track it using this site then it has been sent but royal mail hasnt delivered it yet (in which case contact royal mail).

If he doesnt provide it, or the number doesnt work then file a claim with ebay/paypal

Ok, first thing is that Recorded Delivery is *not* guaranteed next working day delivery, it has to be sent by Special Delivery for that, so it's entirely conceivable that it's still stuck in the system.

As others have said, get the tracking number, although that only logs when it entered the system and if/ when delivery is attempted.

It is possible that they've tried to deliver but just not left a card (or gone to the wrong address or it's been nicked if you share a door with someone else).

Whilst he cannot be held to blame, he is still responsible for the item until it is delivered into your hands/ property.

I've seen eBay sellers that say things like "We aren't responsible if you don't get the goods and you will have to claim from Royal Mail" but that's BS because they are and if an item gets lost the *sender* has to claim from the Post Office, not the recipient.

See what happens when (if) you get the tracking number.

I would also add that I have bought and sold on e-bay and even using the royal mail next day delivery service, this has often arrived one or two days late and the advice that the sender has to make claim for later delivery is correct as it is the sender that is claiming compensation for the failed delivery.

Patience is definitely a requirement when using the royal mail and if this guy can provide proof of posting, so much the better. It would be better IMHO to stay friendly with the seller as this type of thing can escalate very quickly into attributing blame.

However, I heartily endorse using Paypal to report non delivered items as a means to resolve disputes and hopefully get your money back, but this can be a protracted process.

Good luck with your endevours.

Re: Ebay question

Ateleast you used recorded delivery so get a photocopy from him of the tracking number and details and go down to your local post office to find out more.
In the event it has got lost, you should be able to claim compensation to a certain amount.

Re: Ebay question

Just had these replies over the last few hours

Quote:
Hello

Just been onto the Royal Mail website to try and track the item, and surprise surprise the Royal Mail do not disclose the whereabouts of the item until it has been signed for. It is therefore looking very much like it could be lost, or they have had a serious delay in getting mail through.

Anyway you can check for yourself the number is DP*********1GB.

I can also confirm that the item was sent 1st class Recorded, incase you doubt me.

I will photocopy the bits for you and send in the post tomorrow.

Steve

I do realise that when items do not arrive it is very disappointing, but please appreciate that it out of my hands once a package has been posted.

Believe me, I am extremely annoyed that the item has gone missing, and will be making a claim, but the Royal Mail do advise to wait at least a week, even though it was sent Recorded 1st Class.

Hopefully you will see when you get a copy of the recorded voucher that I am not lying when I say it was posted on Friday 5th.

I have just been onto the Royal Mail websitre again to gather some more info, details are as follows:

We're sorry your First Class Recorded sent on 5/8/2005 still hasn't arrived.

Your item is still in transit and will hopefully be with you within the next day or so. If you still haven?t received your item after 15 WORKING days (from the date of posting) please contact us again.

Recorded Signed For

Recorded Signed For is an additional service for First and Second Class services. Using Recorded Signed For you can also confirm the delivery of your item using Track & Trace.

Recorded Signed For is not a guaranteed service but we aim to deliver within one to two days for First Class mail and three to four days for Second Class mail.

So why might a Recorded Signed For delivery take a day or so longer than expected? Here are some possible explanations:

Did it have the full postal address including a valid postcode - YES
Was the envelope clearly legible and dark ink used? - YES - Labelled with return address
Have we left a card to tell you we tried to deliver the item? - NO
Was the item a standard size ? no smaller than a postcard or no larger than A4 size? - In small Box
Size affects the ability to process post mechanically or to get it through your letterbox.

Well this is the excuses the Royal Mail use, pathetic in my opinion.

Steve

Re: Ebay question

The only thing that I would add, and this is out of personal experience, do not wait longer than a month to make a claim. If you try to make a claim more than one month post the auction close, Paypal and ebay will not want to know.

Whatever you do, decide to do it before the month deadline. Otherwise, you will not have a leg to stand on.

Best of luck
