Job question

A few years ago i worked for a motorway service station. I left giving notice and a few months later i found myself unemployed so i saw my old job the service station was recruiting again.

So i re applied there. I never got a job. So i kep looking and a few weeks later they was advertising again so once again i reapplied. The HR took me to one side and said stop applying to work here because i will never say yes to you again.

I questioned her why and she said because we feel you have had to many drive offs. (Having fuel without paying)

The company expected all forecourt staff to write down every registration number of every car that came in and serve. Being a motorway services it got real busy and this was not always possible.

If i apply again can she tell me again not to apply because i have no chance.

Where do i stand with this?

Thanks

Re: Job question

She needs to put " Previous Applicants Need Not Apply " in any future adverts.

Uh .. just stop applying and look elsewhere! What do you think is going to happen? She'll have a change of heart and say "Oh, only joking, here have your job back"?

They're entitled to employ or choose not to employ anyone they want, provided it's not discriminatory.

Frankly, though, I'd tell them to stuff their job until they install some proper CCTV coverage to record car registrations instead of expecting counter staff to write numbers down!

In my local Tesco garage, they have a PC that reads each number plate passing through the CCTV system and records it.

Re: Job question

So where is this service station?

Let us all know as it obviously does not have CCTV & a good place for a drive off

Which bit of Birmingham are you in, Angelus? I'm with everyone else, I could do with knowing for next time I'm visiting the folks

Seriously though, I just wouldn't bother with applying again - they are perfectly within their rights in not offering you an interview or whatever. As long as there is no discrimination taking place, there's not a lot you can do about it unfortunately

AIUI "Bilking" was originally the term for nicking all the odd 0.1 of a penny from bank interest payments and shifting them into your own account (cf Richard Pryor in Superman III), I believe it's a contraction of "Bank Milking".
