Power adaptor
I've just got a kvm switch, from Hong Kong - only thing is the pictures through it tend not to be too sharp, and wobbly at times when more than 1 pc is on. I'm assuming this is because the switch is unpowered (or rather powered through the pc that is running it at the time...).
I guess this means I need to power it externally - the (brief) instructions say that I need a DC 9v 500ma adaptor... I'm not sure if something like this would do it http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?ModuleNo=12205&doy= - i.e. would the 12v one be switchable down to 9v?

Re: Power adaptor
Looks like it won't switch down. It might be an idea to go into your local Maplins and explain your requirements. There should be at least one member of staff who has a vague clue of what you are one about..
Actually, that's not fair. There is usually one or two members of staff in my local Maplins that are good with electronics.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking - had just wanted to avoid the trip there, since it's a tad awkward to get to mid week....

Re: Power adaptor
Argos do a cheap multi-adaptor, I have a few - don't look like the pictue though
Masterplug
1200mA Multi
Voltage
Adaptor.
982/8908
Only issue is you need to tape the right plug the right way around and fix the voltage switch if you have anyone who fiddles!
PS May not fix your problem - you need good quality monitor cables for the monitor connection to work well through a switch!

Thing is the pciture quality gets worse when more than one pc is on? so hopefully more power will help?

Re: Power adaptor
if you do go, take the device with you so that you can ensure that you get the right plug on it & correctly wired up etc.
There are more than 1 size of power plug.

That's the one I got...
It's helped.. the picture is a lot better - not fantastic - and when I want to play a game, I'll disconnect it, but it's good enough for day to day use, and saves having several screens/keyboards/mice...
