Council favouritism
why do my local council favour certain families.
in my street there are 3 families all with the same name, they don't work they claim all the benefits going and the youngest daughter knocks chavs out like shelling peas, 6 up to now.and non of them pay rent or council tax.
yet when ever the council improve the houses (double glazing new kitchens new doors)they are always first in the queue and get there's done first.
its the same with repairs i have to wait if i get them done at all yet these three get there's done straight away.
whoever said the meek shall inherit the earth were wrong because in my opinion all that happens to the meek is they get **** on every time.especially by my local council.
gripe over.

Re: why
Because they probably know somebody in the council.
A guy at works sister has 3 son's in there late teen's she has been given an 6 bedroom council house and doesnt work so pays no rent, all because she knows somebody that works there.

Re: Council favouritism
give the non rent payers all the rubbish property and if you are a rent payer ( earn real money and pay rent ) then you should get the best selection .problem would be solved

My biggest gripe with the local housing corporation as well (and I'm a councillor for my sins).
I think they should give the well looked after properties with good tennants all the new stuff and use the good secondhand stuff they remove for the houses which are not cared for.

well put angua.
the council in my area have a blitz on at the moment about people tidying up there gardens and keeping the streets nice and tidy.but what sort of an incentive is it for the decent people to do this when we see the local rough getting every thing new and are first to get it.
no i have had enough i am going to turn rough now and not give a toss about anything.then when the council come moaning at me i shall get a social worker then maybe the council will treat me a bit better.
after all whats the saying, if you can't beat em join em.

Re: Council favouritism
Ask to see the tenancy agreement.
It also lists the councils responsibilities as well as yours. It varies from council to council but there is usually something about them having to keep the house in good repair and in a timely manner.
They also usually have a repairs policy which you can ask to see (or maybe available on your council's website). They should tell you when the booked repair is likely to be carried out and in some cases, for major repairs, you get a card with a date on it (and/or especially if you are normally out at work during the day).
If you ask for these policy/agreement documents in writing along with your complaint then hopefully that will worry them enough to sort your problems out.
If that fails, then there is the Local Government Ombudsman. You can fill in a complaint form from their website and then they contact the council. That usually gets their heads out of their bottoms. www.lgo.org.uk
On the otherhand you could do what the chavs probably do. i.e. Take advantage of the councils apparent unwritten policy of "those who shout loudest and most often" and embarrass yourself in the rent office every week till it gets done. Alternatively, marry someone in the council housing dept.

Re: Council favouritism
The families that obtain all the benefits and get everything for nothing, have those skills handed down like a family occupation.
The saying that you dont get nothing if you dont ask, is reworded by these people to "You dont get nothing if you dont demand" These people just have the cheek and ability to bareface lie to get what they want, just go along to any public house in the daytime and see them enjoying themselves at our expense.

I wouldn't want to be them for a minute, I would much rather pay my way than scrounge of others.

Same thing happens around here, it's despicable, I blame the labour party who hold most of the council seats in Rochdale Borough Council - praise the lazy and s**t on the hard workers
