Fishing!!

Afternoon guys and gals!

Well for once I haven't got a motoring question.....

Anyway, I noticed in another thread below (6 weeks holidays) that someone said try fishing to get away from the kids, well I've been wanting to try it for years and years to be honest. I've heard its really relaxing etc and considering I've got a pretty short temper and 3 weeks off work coming up thought I should give it go! this is where you guys come in... what do I need? A rod of course (what type), lisence??? where from? where do I goto fish and what the hell do I do!! None of my mates are into fishing and it doesn't really intrest them! so ant help, advice on cost of stuff etc would be greatly welcomed!

Thanks Guys!

Lee

PS I know NOTHING at all about fishing so any experts answering, speak to me like im a complete novice! cheers

Re: Fishing!!

you can do it without a permit

1) perchase an 8 pack of beer
2) put said beer in water to keep cool
3) tie a float to the line (no hook or bait)
4) an mp3 player or personal stereo must be conected to the ears
5) drink the beer no need to worry about the skills of fishing or the hassle of catching a fish and everybody will think you are fishing

Re: Fishing!!

There are different places to try.
Some lakes or specialist fishing centres let you fish without a license and you then pay for whatever you have caught. This is good if you just want a quick go at fishing to see if you enjoy it or not.

If you want to go out on the river and fish, you will need a license.
There are different types of license. I havent fished in ages so cant remember but a look HERE for pricing information.
You can get some weekly licenses too.

Re: Fishing!!

You can get a rod license online now too

Go to your local fishing tackle shop, they will sort you out with some gear and tell you what to do etc..

Re: Fishing!!

some simple advise is;

"Go to your local tackle shop".

They will advise you on everything, where to go & what you need.
Start out with some cheap gear, heck even see if you can borrow some & go with a mate that fishes.
That way you have not wasted lots only to find that your not too keen.

And if you catch nowt, persevere. It's the peace & quiet that's they key not that catching fish, that's a bonus.

Re: Fishing!!

Fishing is so peaceful, and TBH I much prefer fishing when it's raining.

Sitting there on the riverbank or the edge of a lake tucked under a huuuge umbrella with a few cans, and sarnies leaning back whilst you listen for sounds from that electronic sensor on your rod rest ( ) is ace

For most people, imo... fishing is not about the actual fishing part it's about relaxing and chilling out.

Think I can be arsed watching the end of the rod move when I can snooze and listen for a buzz?

I spent years course angling/specimen hunting in England, now I'm in Ireland it's all fly and sea, both of which hold no interest

I live in Crumpsall, Manchester. Not sure if there are any fishing places round there?

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I've found a fishing shop in Bury so i'm going to pop in and see how much it all costs and hopefully i'll be a calmer bloke by the end of it all....

Thanks again everyone
