Things to do in Pas de Calais?
I'm thinking of taking the family for an overnight break near Calais in August (same price as day trip on Eurotunnel - £46) and wondered what people recommend doing in the area (apart from hypermarche ).
Also, can anyone recommend a B&B/motel near Calais/Boulogne?
TIA

If you want to do any shopping or need a quick meal, the CitéEurope shopping centre is good.
The restaurent "Flunch" in the shopping centre lets you eat as much as you want so if you have kids that are hunngry and like going back for seconds, its easy.
If you ar einto the history side of things, there are many old war museums, and old war shelters.
The main Calais beach and town is ok, but go a bit more down coast and there are some lovely beaches.
If you are intending on picking up some wine or spirits to take home with you. Go to a more local supermarket as the big ones will be slightly more expensive.

Don't know anything about the region, but a quick google bought up this site - might be some use

Yeah, I'd steer clear of Calais itself... too many Brits.
For B&B you could try the tourist information - they'll have a list of all places, and will tell you which ones are most popular. They'll also undoubtedly speak Engrish too

If you're very lucky, they might also speak English

I'd second St Omer as being worth a look.
Le Touquet is about 90 minutes away (turn right out of Calais) bit more resort like, with nice beach which might appeal to the kids.

Le Touquet is twinned with Witney, Oxfordshire.

Thats where I stayed last time I was over there. Pedestrianised and a casino on the front.

Yeah, Engrish is not really a European-thing... it's more oriental but I tend to use it for all Johnny Foreigners
Talking of Engrish, here's something that made me laugh...
Caution: sailors have been at sea too long...

Re: Things to do in Pas de Calais?
I've been to Le Touquet too... it's pretty nice as well but I'd have said it was too far from Calais to drive really. But then, we did go before the mo0torway was built.

Re: Things to do in Pas de Calais?
Le Touquet if I recall correctly is about 90 minutes, or perhaps 2 hours if you crawl via motorway.
Put it this way, I've done a booze cruise - Calais to Le Touquet for lunch, back to the hypermarket (I quite like Auchan rather than Cite-de Europe) for a 2 hour overload the trolley fest, then into Calais Centre for an evening meal, all well within a 12 hour return ticket on the ferry.
