Extreme Phobias
I have a terible phobia of needles and injections. People simply dont know what its like and dont understand
Lots of people simply say " its not painfull " but thats nothing to do with it. Its simply the thought of the needle penetrating the skin.
My phobia stems from childhood when at the age of 5 I had to have a kidney x-ray. I was left in a room on my own for 4 hours with a needle in my arm. The needle was not clean and my whole arm swelled up to twice its normal size. I was only 5 and I am 30 now but I can remember it like it happened last week.
I realy feel for and understand people that have phobia's as it can cause problems, I for example will never be able to travel to a country that needs inoculations.
Perhaps people should try and be more tolerent and understading instead of taking the mickey out of people with these unfortunate aflictions !
What are your phobia's ??

Re: Extreme Phobia's
I do sympathise. Hubby could never take the children for their innoculations and even though I am very calm about these things my daugter takes after her dad whilst my son didn't even flinch for the last ones.....
I used to have a phobia about spiders but now it is only May Bugs (nice word nasty creature) due to one landing on my bed (about 3 inches from my face ) when I was eight . Scary.

Accidents, involving a certain person!!!! who will not listen to you, even though I had a bad feeling the night before. Cancer my brother and my mother in law are both fighting it and having a serious asthma attack, the last one nearly killed me needless to say I carry all my drugs all the time

Re: Extreme Phobia's
I used to work with a girl who had a phobia about veins, which is a similar thing, apparently she had to be forcibly held down if she needed a blood test, etc. At first, like you say, Stu, we were inclined to take the mickey, but as we came to understand it was a real phobia, we laid off, luckily before she was too upset.
I have a fear of heights, but not really a phobia, as I can quite happily climb trees, ladders, etc, so long as I am holding on. I actually get butterflies in my tummy, when watching film of other people climbing, though, or where someone walks near the edge of a tall building ...

Re: Extreme Phobia's
I have a strange enjoyment of needles tbh ...I was in and out of hospital after a car crash when I was 18.....had >12 ops since ...so blood tests and alike are no problem...another strange like is the sensation you have when you get knocked out by a general anesthetic!
Anyway onto phobia, I enjoy my own company but I fear being left..you know when you have an arguement with the wife and she just leaves the room etc... (Probably my mother's fault but that's a different story! ) ...I also have a phobia of crowds, such as shopping malls, supermarkets, cinemas, resturants etc... and usually have panic attacks/head rushes/hot flushes etc..
So my worst fear is being abandoned in a supermarket!

Don't like needles... it's just the thought of someone sticking sharp pointy thing into the skin. plus it aches afterwards

Re: Extreme Phobia's
I did try hypnotherpy and it did not help.
I have to keep clear of the needles as even the sight of them makes me pass out, If anyone aprouches me with a needle I see red and become extremely voilent I just cant help it.
