am i paranoid or was i checked ?

now before people think im wierd im not just very self-aware....

yesterday i went to carphone warehouse in leeds, i went in and went back out wrong store, so i walked in to the right store this time and had a look around and the repairs section was up the stairs so i went up, waited behind another person being served and then got my turn:

i said: hi, i have come regarding a nokia warranty repair...

the CPW guy: oh right, blah blah about needing proof of purchase

i said: i have the phone with me and proof of purchase as required

* i put the phone on the desk and point out its a 6230i

he says: right so where is your proof of purchase

*at this point i get the envelope and was about to pull out the reciept

the CPW guy: well rather than you get this out ill have a look at the date you purchased this on our computer.

*at this point i was confused how can they tell when i purchased it when i bought it from a internet shop, so there is a lady in the back hes talking to for about a minuite then hes reading what i think is the IMEI number off the phone and shes typing it in.

he comes back asking when i purchased it i said april he says oh you should have contacted the shop you bought it from yadyada!

i said yes i did but they sai dit has to be under a specified time.

then asks me for my details which they already had (never bought a CPW phone but i might have registered with the site) then uses the computer in the front for the transaction.

im not paranoid but what do you all make of it rather strange huh ?

sounds like they were indeed checking the phone wasnt registered as stolen. presumably they must have had a lot of stolen phones there

assuming you didn't steal it , nothing to worry about...

added a few extra bits, im not bothered really but it gets on my nerves, is it because im black, or well spoken, i was dressed pretty smartly too

Kronas, I went to the post office today to change some dollars I had lingering in my purse, was only $22 so not exactly heavy duty. The fella that was on the counter, checked double checked and triple checked the $20 note as though his life depended on it He ran his fingers over it, used one of the specials pens and then put it under a ultraviolet light and eventually he agreed to change it. Now I wouldn't say I looked like some master money forger but I was still a bit put out. Do as I did and put it down to one of lifes experiences, not one of the better ones but thats the way things go.

i understand checks have to be made, the guy infront never got the same checking as i did, i was watching it all, as i said its not the first time this has happened, i have reason to be slightly miffed at this, it just shows CPW in a bad light, i have the reciept of purchase with my card, even with the IMEI printed on a letter attached with my address, the fact that the guy did not check what i had with me giving and then taking the oppertunity away shows that i have a reason to be suspicious of his actions.

im an honest and upstanding citizen and was treated as if i was suspicious.

What the issue with the phone btw. Mine is crashing all the time and the ringtone doesnt always ring loud enough. It defaults back onto ascending ring tone....It also says enhancement not supported when I enter it into the carkit....

just a few things:

selected ringing tone alternates between selected and default nokia one on the phones own accord

the phone locksup and constantly vibrates when someone is ringing me

dropped calls when i go to answer them

screen lights up on its own accord

nokia say its a firmware issue and the new firmware should resolve it.

No it isnt you, everyone does checks. When I took something to H&M I had to sign loads of stuff. People are just extra security concious, it isnt you, it is all because of societies scroats, they are trying to make it harder for them to return stuff, so do not worry about it.
