Optimax Laser Eye
Hi all
My wife recently had this donne (eyes -6.0 very short sighted) last Friday. Although it has improved her sight she does not think she will be able to drive. I wonder is such cases do they re sap the eyes to correct it further or will she still have to wear glasses in which case bit of a wate of money.
Does anyone have any expereince of this ???
Thanks
Mike

Re: Optimax Laser Eye
You would be better off asking the person who did the work on her eye to be honest. Do you know exactly what she had done?

Re: Optimax Laser Eye
Laski does not guarantee 6/6 vision, she may still need to wear glasses post op.
They may also retreat.
Healing takes time though.

Was it Lasik or Lasek she had? Lasik is more of an instant hit where the eyesight is usually at driving standard after 24/48 hours. Lasek takes a lot longer to heal and may well take several weeks to reach driving standards. With Lasek the protective outer layer on the surface of the eye is softened with alcohol and folded aside. This will cause blurring and non perfect vision whilst healing. Laser eye specialists do not usually consider additional treatment until the 6 months stage as it can take this long to heal.
I would say if she had Lasek, her eyesight at present is what you would expect it to be and will improve considerably over the next few weeks. If she had Lasik treatment I would expect for her to have reached driving standards by now. Quite often with Lasek the put a contact lens bandage on the eye for a week or so. Again sight will be much improved when this is removed.

Re: Optimax Laser Eye
This is what puts me off this kind of treatment, with -5.50 in one eye and -3.50 in the other i would rather just get cheap specs of the internet...
Oh, and i am squeamish!!!

Re: Optimax Laser Eye
Does she have a weekly check up booked, perhaps it's better than she thinks? Also I would probably give it a few more weeks to settle in.
Driving vision is a very low standard, 20/30 I believe, or 6/9 if you can do that metric thing. Which basically means you can see at 20 feet what an average sighted person can see at 30 feet. So not that good really. 20/20 vision is just average really.
After about 2 years of research, I went for the Lasik earlier this year. Within a day I was at driving standard, which I found to be very poor vision and quite scary that it's all you need to drive. At my weekly check up I had gone to 20/20 vision which i didn't find that fantastic. At my monthy checkup I felt I had reached the standard of vision I had before the op using glasses. My vision had gone to 20/10, which means I can see at 20 feet what an average person can see at 10, so extremely good vision.
I would not have been happy if I ended up at only driving standard, I don't think I would have been happy at getting only 20/20 vision!!
I think what I really mean to say in an extremely long winded way is........ she should wait a while and see!!

Re: Optimax Laser Eye
Please please please anyone who is thinking of having laser surgery on their eyes please think again. A work colleague had it done and ended up worse than what he was before, his eyes were a right mess.

Re: Optimax Laser Eye
i've thought about having this done by i don't have a spare set of eyes.. if it goes wrong then you can't change your eyes
also no one has had this done 30 or 40 years ago we don't know what will happen later in life and i plan to live a long time at 27 i don't want to loose my eyesight for ever
