something to CRoW about
I hope you're all getting out and about this weekend - for there is good reason. Tomorrow, 28th May, the Countryside Rights of Way Act, 2000 comes into force in the regions known as Upper North West (inc Lake District) and Wales (inc Snowdonia). This is sometimes called the Right to Roam.
Provided the area is designated, this means "any person is entitled ...to enter and remain on access land for the purposes of open recreation"
More details here:
http://www.ramblers.org.uk/freedom/
http://www.countrysideaccess.gov.uk/
http://www.defra.gov.uk/wildlife-cou...cl/accessopen/
Happy rambling....

Paintballing rocks! Just make sure you wear gloves to protect your hands.
Personally I'll be mowing the lawn - how boring

So okay, it was a day late, but here's me half way up the front of Pen yr Ole Wen at a particularly airy moment!

Re: something to CRoW about
Mrs A was ahead of me, on safer ground. I'm on the first part of Braich Ty Du a grade-2 scramble (grading starts at 1 and ends at 3) that somehow warrants a star for, well, star quality. Whilst this bit is good and exciting, it doesn't last very long and much of the rest of the ascent is just a slog. Mind you, we may well have been on the wrong butress higher up.
For more info, seek out Scrambles in Snowdonia by Steve Ashton. Or find another scrambles guide for your favourite area.
Oh, and the sack - well apart from my lunch, a spare shirt and some waterproofs, most of the space was taken by a rope, a harness, some slings and a few carabiners - just in case!
The view from the top was good though - especially from Carnedd Dafydd - recommended.

The only gay cairn in the village?
You're right, though, the view is spectacular. Did you visit the UK's highest licensed premises?

Re: something to CRoW about
Ah, I forgot about that - dreadful place! No, we didn't go there this time. But we could see the smoke from the trains puffing their way up to the top though.
