Vulcan may fly again
I was very pleased to see this report today
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/l...re/4532071.stm
if anyone has ever seen - and heard - one of these aircraft stand on its tail & climb like a rocket, as I have, you will join me in hoping they really achieve the goal

Brings back memories of going to Waddington Airshow about 23 years ago.

Re: Vulcan may fly again
My initial reaction to the title was, "I don't remember Mr Spock ever being able to fly."

Re: Vulcan may fly again
That would be wicked to see the Vulcan fly again!!!!
Such noise, the sight of it, what an aircraft.
A true classic.
'nuff said!

Terrific machine - saw one at Abingdon many years ago - you don't see or hear them, you feel them. Four Olympus engines pointed at you does tend to make all other senses shut down for self protection.

Re: Vulcan may fly again
It was the way that they used to do like the Lightning and skim the runway and then whooosh! Go vertical on full reheat, what an aircraft!
one of the best!

I am not sure where the last time I saw one flying, was - I think it was RAF St Mawgan in the 80's, so about the same time as you at Waddington - which is coming soon

i think the Vulcan wins that battle. Might just be that i was a lot younger when i last saw the Vulcan fly but all i can remember is the feeling of my chest vibrating from the noise. I dont remember the blackbird doing that.

Re: Vulcan may fly again
Chest thwacking!
I loved the Vulcan when it was flying!
Used to have a poster of it on my wall for years!
Beautiful.

Got a bit boring after a while - I spent my entire school career under the Mildenhall flight path so it was a bit 'oh, another SR-71'. We used to get excited when a 747 went over on a charter, mind you, and the airshow was always good fun, unless you wanted to drive anywhere. Suffolk being pretty flat, you could just sit and watch the planes fly over.
I had pictures of Buccaneers on my wall - a schoolmate's dad was a nav on them (and previously on Vulcans, later on Tornados). Magnificent machines.

I'll concede that point - the Vulcan did vibrate my chest more than the blackbird, which was more 'loud' overall to my ears, presumably because I only heard the SR71 doing missions, not displays - I was only a young lad then & was indoors, it was still bl00dy loud
