college what to do ?

ok i thought to myself whilst im in a positive frame of mind i take a look in to a college course, i have been looking at a freinds prospectus and to be honest i dont know what to do really, i mean as much as i would like to try a few things i just have no direction right now, im going to see if i can speak to someone at the college about this.

so really i wanted to know the opinions, thoughts, tips, from everyone here about the best course of action, i dont even have anything GCSE or curricular wise so i will be limited by choice anyway....

If you are good with 'puters, what about looking into a City and Guilds in IT and Networking? IIRC paulyoung666 said something about said course in another thread. A C&G in IT would tickle my fancy, but afaik there are no collages running that course in NI, so a bit buggered.

im fairly good with computers, but im in the rather nasty position of not knowing what direction i want to go in.

IT kind of bores me because i have spent alot of time faffing about with computers in my early years.

You need to think of your interests...

If you list your interests you are halfway there to finding a course you will like.

I'm assuming you're thinking of a Further Education college here.
It might be worth looking at a GNVQ course, which works from Level 1 (when completed = 4 x GCSE) to Level 3 (when completed = 2 x A-Level)

I suggest that you go visit your college of choice and talk to one of their admissions staff who can advise you on what courses are accesible to you and which routes you can take. You won't have to decide there & then, but you'll have a much better idea of what is available.

Look here http://www.huddnewcoll.ac.uk/courses/contents.asp for the examples of courses and the qualification they lead to.

Also check out information on Foundation courses, as you may need to do one of those first if you don't have any GCSEs.

In that case, steer well clear of any computing courses!

Making a career in IT is more difficult these days, and really requires more than an 'interest' in computers.

Check out what kind of money people with a trade are making, and you might well be surprised!
