Credit Reports: fraud!?

Hello! wonder if any of you guys can help me? i've just obtained my credit report from equifax and have noticed it appears on the report that my previous address has been flagged for fraud against a well known bank for three days before i moved out! it details the two persons names whom were accused of fraud and i recognise both of the names as the two previous tenants (due to mail we recived in their names) what i want to know is how will this affect my credit rating and can i get it removed seeing as it has nothing to do with me? i'm really worried now especially as i have been getting refused credit of late and there is absolutely nothing else on my report to cause credit to be rejected help?!!

Re: Credit Reports: fraud!?

you can (and definitely should!) get it removed. when i checked with equifax they sent instructions on how to remove with the report.

otherwise, you can dispute things online:

https://www.econsumer.equifax.co.uk/consumer/uk/

edit: you want a 'notice of disassociation'

Re: Credit Reports: fraud!?

hi bmxbandit, i've sent their cmr services an email, but last time i did so it took days for a response, just wondering if anyone had any suggestions until then? it's strange as it is two separate instances of fraud with the same bank on the same day each in one of the two tenants names! would this be what has been affecting my credit rating? and would i be able to get further details from the bank in question seeing as it is on my credit report, i thought the last tennants were a bit dodgy - when we moved in there was an open bank statement from another bank which i looked at and it showed credits from the student loan company so with him being a student one would think he did not have too much disposable income?! how wrong in the space of a month he had made cash withdrawals of between £250 - £500 in about 5 places in the uk one in spain and one in amsterdam plus massive credits of £1200= on four occassions!

oh no come to think of it about 6 months ago my boyfriend over the space of 3 months on his bank statemnets had direct debits set up with companies we have never dealt with, t mobile and aa insurance, we now have to go into the bank in person to set up any direct debits, the bank did not seem to interested and the two companies would not tell either my boyfriend or the bank who had applied and against what address due to the DPA!

Re: Credit Reports: fraud!?

once they process the notice of disassociation (which they have up to 28 days to do) the names you specify are formally taken off the credit report, so will have no further effect.

i doubt they will give you any info about the previous tenants, and you probably don't need or want to know

Hi shredder, the problem will be the address Equifax will tagg the address and not the name, I had the same problem a few years ago when I moved house I've never missed a payment on anything always been good with my bank for example paid loans back on time or before time. When I applied for interest free credit a few years ago for a new music centre I was turned down, bear in mind I've had stuff from the finance company before GE Capital they turned me down. I phoned them up and asked them what the problem was, they told me it was the credit score, I gave them my previous address and my old account details I had with them they did a search and everything came up ok on my old address it was the new address that was causing the problem.

It cost me about £6 to get it all cleared off and after that my address was clean, give them a go you never know.
