Cheap Flights?
I was planning to go to Edinburgh in the summer for a few days and was thinking about flights and so on, and thought it might be cheaper to book now, but on my many searches I can't seem to find anything under £130 for two adults return from Southampton to Edinburgh. I have never flown before so have no idea about costs and so on. Is this the average cost for a flight, becuase it seems a bit steep??
I seem to get resonably priced tickets when searching, i've looked on opodo.co.uk, but as soon as they add tax is way over £100 for economy tickets
Some of my family have flown up to glasgow from the midlands before for under £20, so I'm not quite sure. Anybody have any ideas?

Well, just keep checking round, you should be able to beat that i'd think.
www.easyjet.co.uk
www.flybmi.com
www.lastminute.co.uk (And you can book well in advance, the name is a bit misleading in that respect)

Re: Cheap Flights?
I just checked easyjet and the closest airport to you they fly from seems to be Bristol. I did a quick search and flying (as an example) 10 July, returning 20 July totaled £71 and odds.
Better to do your own search, with possible dates to and from Glasgow, and see if its worth while.
HTH.

'Summer' is a bit vague - any particular month?
edit - BA can do a mid week (tues-fri) break in August for £124 total.

tbh, you're not going to get much better than that. The taxes anywhere on domestic flights are hideous... Maybe it'd be better to see if you can get a flight/hotel deal on last minute or something?

Fare enough, I never been on a plane or really on holiday anywhere, so I have no idea of prices for flights so I guess it would be cheaper to get a virgin train all the way up there... I might check that out.
Thanks for you help! I really didnt realise flying was so expensive! I thought my passport cost me enough! lol

TBH that's about as good as you're going to get. Don't pay too much attention to headline-grabbing £1 fares from the likes of Ryanair, they are few and far between.
This air fare, once you strip out tax, is something like £20 each way per person, which is very good really. I'd book on the basis of that quote, it will only get more expensive as your date of travel draws closer.

www.ryanair.com
Cheap and no frills airline. but when you are doing such short distances, who needs a meal and cinema setup onboard?
I went to Austria for £40 return and had no problems.
And that included taxes.

You don't get a film on European routes even if you fly BA. And you don't get a meal on domestic flights unless you fly at mealtimes, although the pie and free coffee is nice.
Beware of Ryanair, they will land you on a grassy airfield 50 miles from the city they say they are taking you to.
