Mobile Radar Traps

Are Blunkett's Bouncer's (aka Community Support Officers) for the police really supposed to be operating these? Was driving through Bookham in Surrey and there they were, two of them, by the side of the road. I thought they were supposed to do community patrols, speak to the locals, that sort of crime fighting stuff.

Meanwhile Surrey have even been experimenting with letting radar be operated by neighbourhood watch type bods. Where will it end?

Gatso's is one thing, but this is now just getting to be motorist persecution.

Re: Mobile Radar Traps

I think the Police just let them out to do the stuff they can't be bothered to do themselves - well that's the case round here! When they are not sitting in our local Tesco cafe that is - the excuse being that if they can be seen by the local community, it will cut crime!
Might be an idea to check with the local Constabulary

bring back the bobbys on the beat and as far as I'm concerned the only way sanity is going to come back to policing and public order is if we have a change of regime. this government is all about human rights crap and form filling and pen pushers. replace all these crap jobs with cops and stick em on the streets.

Go back to a clip round the ear and an escort home to the parents by police car Can't touch criminals these days without infringing their human rights. How about you have the right to STFU and suffer in a jail cell for a while

Re: Mobile Radar Traps

I wouldn't mind so much if there was adequate police cover. Earlier this week some madman (literally) was sitting in the middle of the road, waiting to get squashed. Loads of drivers pulled round him and carried on, but I stopped as did a passing by off duty met police officer. We got the bloke out of the road, he wasn't happy about it, phoned the local police what we were up to, Surrey again, but had to let the bloke go on his way.

He walked 50 yards along the pavement, then wandered back out into the dual carriageway, 50mph limit, swinging his bag at any cars that got in range. Clearly suicidal and in need of help. The met officer and I dragged him from the road again, tried to talk to him, but then punches were thrown, and he had to be pinned to the floor. It took well over 20 minutes before any police arrived. They had come from Staines and Epsom! to Weybridge.

Re: Mobile Radar Traps

Well I was at a conference last week, and the Chief Inspector for one of the Police Forces told us about all the sterling work his officers have done on the statistics of crime in his area, they can tell you anything about the type of crime committed in their area, profiles of the perpetrators and so on Another Chief Inspector took the stand after him and said that his force had cut all types of crime on average by 20% without any increase in manpower. The secret of his success? He put all of his available officers out on the streets and in Patrol cars (do do proper enforcement of speeding and the like) - clerical staff have taken over the backroom paper work. He got a standing ovation and filthy looks from the previous speaker!

Re: Mobile Radar Traps

Now why can't all Chief Inspectors be like the second one?

Yeah - and you should have seen the two of them in the bar later in the evening!! I thought the second one would get lynched by the first one and his cronies. His attitude was superb though - he was very passionate about his work - and kept saying 'We are Police Officers so we go and and police - and the criminals go elsewhere or think twice about committing crime. It's not rocket science, is it?' Well it's not!!

I'm not anti police, but I am against the way they operate these days. Todays local newspaper proudly boasts the headlines "Two Million Pounds Paid by speeding motorists in the area this year" What is that to boast about, the only ones happy is the local authority for coining in some more money.

Perhaps I should post the stories every week in the local paper about burglary, vandalism and cars taken for joyriding, as it certainly seems to be increasing at an alarming rate in the last couple of years around here.

As I mentioned in a thread I started, when the police catch a young criminal they seem to want to let them go. My parents supplied CCTV evidence and someone has admitted to the crime of using a jemmy to force the car door open and then bending back the top of the car door whilst having his two feet on the side of the car..... The community liason officer is being awkward about my parents claiming for the damage, and asked my parents if they would consider dropping the charges because he's such a nice boy.

Is that what nice boys do these days?

What planet are they on
