Re: Insurance

shop around is the best advice i can give!!

With my first car, i found that the cheapest insurance was Tesco, and in my second year it was Norwich Union....

there is a site where you can compare insurers but i can't remember what it is at the moment...

Re: Insurance

At your age I would shop around and get quotes from everyone. When it is coming up for renewal next year shop around again and do this every year until you're at least 26. It's amazing what difference a year makes. What's cheapest for you this year may be a couple of hundred pounds dearer than another company next year for someone with your age and experience..

Re: Insurance

As you are on a provisonal licence and only 18 is getting the parents to insure this for you not an option.

Ok you wont build any no claims but you can think about that when over 21 and passed your test.

Re: Insurance

I can always recommend Tesco because they quoted me half what everyone else was when I passed my test a few yeasr back.

Other than them, try www.confused.com who can compare various quotes for you

Re: Insurance

I'd agree with trying Tesco, but you could also try
http://www.moneyextra.com/insurance/motor/ for a comparison service, or
http://www.endsleigh.co.uk/ - they used to do student insurance or
http://www.admiral.co.uk/ - my current insurer.

Have you budgeted for insurance? Even third party could be 10% of the cost at your age!

Re: Insurance

As others have said, there is no such thing as a cheap car insurance company for everybody. However, there will be one cheap company for a specific person and specific car.

As Nugget said, confused.com is a good place to start but bear in mind it does not compare prices for the Direct Line group:
Direct Line
Privilege
Churchill
Tesco
which often turn out to be the cheapest.

Re: Insurance

I've got to say, at your age, I'd never have bought a car without checking the insurance first... It'll probably be half of the cost of the car...

And priviledge is no good unless you have a certain amount of no claims...

Check hpi make sure theres no finance outstanding on it asap.

Insurance should be over a grand on that car based on your age.

Re: Insurance

to Handyman and OB's comments ... I would estimate your first year insurance bill to be well over a grand.

Your best bet for insurance at your age and experience level is to go to a broker. Try the one in your local high street, or a national brand like the AA. Then start being very nice indeed to your parents.

Re: Insurance

steer clear of elephant - their customer service is very very very appalling.

examples - proof of no claims bonus asked for - didnt turn up - chased by email - didnt turn up - chased again - didnt turn up. emails dont get answered. people email you and when you email them back they're always no longer with the company.

then when you eventually leave them the cheeky gits send you a questionaire asking why you decided to leave.

I think he's looking at about 1800 TPFT

Do Pass Plus and go with Norwich Union, give them a ring now and ask em for a projected quote, and say your 18 with pass plus - your looking at 50% off. Probably get a quote for about 900 squid.

Or don't go with Norwich Union and save youself £800 anyway!

They have not yet been able to "quote me happy" or anywhere near it!

They're only really good for young drivers with PP, imo.
