Depressing Day
Well, today sees me hitting a new low in the jobhunting stakes.
I got knocked back for not one, but three jobs today. Two of the rejections arrived by post this morning, and one by email this afternoon. That brings my total to 42 rejections in the last 11 months, and to be honest it getting rather depressing.

Re: Depressing Day
have you had any feedback as to why you are getting so many knock backs, EOB - could it be the ex Army tag?
Whatever, it must be difficult for you, but like Chimaera says, you just have to keep on trying.
- if there is anything I can do to help, drop me a PM.

What they all said
Nothing I can say to add to that. I've been there before, so if you want help coaching with interview technique, etc, don't hesitate mate.

I dont think being an ex-squaddie has much to do with it. I learned early on not to include that in my employment history, but to let potential employer know about it at interviews. That way the number of people who know about it are kept to a minimum. Its not my interview technique either as far as I can tell. AKAIK of the knockbacks I've had only to where due to interview failures, and those where for jobs call centers for banks/ building societies. Any time I get feedback on interviews they are most complementary about the interviews I've given.
It seems to me that the long gap since I resigned from my last job is really doing me the harm. I was advised that I should qualify the reason for being out of work since October 2003 (which was to get a couple of months study break). But to also include some details about being seriously injured in the car accident last Feburary. I think once porential employers hear about the accident they see me more as a liability than a possible asset to their company.

Re: Depressing Day
Sorry to hear that mate, although I was in a similar situation, I took time out from october 2000 to September 2003 when I got a job at NTL, I had plenty of knock backs when I finally started looking again, Have you tried registering with an agency? say you will only consider temp to perm other than straight forward permanent placements, and im sure you will find something.

Are you a potential medical liability? Physically or mentally?

Re: Depressing Day
Turning up and asking for job application might get you considered.Apart from that I've no idea.Seems to me it takes time and patience.
Also when you least expect to get a job is when you will get one.Time and time again I've heard people say that a job that they thought nothing much about but tried for anyway came through for them. That they didn't believe they would get the job but went for the interview and got the job.Maybe the key is to not really care one way or the other.
Good luck anyway. It's about time you got some.
Luck that is, for the dirty minded amongst you lot.

I dont think so, on either count. My back is fully healed, though still painful (8 broken ribs and a fair number of internal injuries, including damage to both lungs). Psychologically.... Apparently I'm the sanest person I know, I was sent for a psych consult last month and was given a ''clean bill of health''. Maybe they are afraid I'll go postal in the office with a staple gun?

What back injuries did you sustain? 'Cos if it's still painful, it's not fully healed.............

Eight broken ribs in my back, five on the right of my spine and three on the left. Four of the ribs broken on the right where shattered for a length of about 2 - 2.5 inches and have rehealed in something of a ''hump''. My spine is bent laterally (sp?) to the right from about one-third up my back to the base of the spine/ pelvis. All the muscles on the right side of my back received blunt trauma, and two of the muscles around my right shoulder have atrophied.
Ohhhh..... and I cant pee out of my left ear any more.

Cheers mate, and good-luck with the outcome of the interview.
Oh, and thanks to everyone who has posted. While I'm still breathing I'm still in the fight. Though saying that, its prolly a good thing I didnt bring my PPW home from the police station last week.
