Buying a second hand jeep - advice wtd plz

Hi my father is interested in getting a second hand jeep...he is considering the following

Mitisbushi Shogun
Mitsibushi Pajero
Vauxhall Frontera

Which one would you reccomend and why? does anyone know of any good places to purchase one and more importantly which one would be best value...my dad is looking for something basically tha will be "comfortable" to ride in and cheap to fix if any problems do occur.

thanks in advance...all replies are appreciated.

Get a good old Landrover, u can fix any problems on that with a bit of cooking oil and frayed rope

Go for the Landrover instead, without doubt the most rugged peice of kit on the road. Seeing as the army have been driving then since '47 (I think) that should tell you all you need to know about them. Replacement parts can also be as cheap as chips to buy, if you can find the right supplier online. Get a copy of the Landrover magazine, have a look through it and see what you think. There is also a wide network of Landrover owners clubs around the country, check online, you'll find them.

Is he looking for a on road // off road both vehicle. What circumstances does he want this to be comfortable in, the school run or across a field / desert / mountain?

Fronteras are a big avoid as far as I know, they leak, some basic maintainance is a b1tch (changing headlamp bulbs for example) and are underpowered.

Going by what your father is considering...he's not looking for a serious off roader. I'd go for the shogun they are comfortable, plenty of spares available , not too heavy on the diesel compared to some, but no 4x4 is cheap to run or maintain .... Not knocking landrovers by any means..I own a defender 90 300Tdi ... and wouldnt part with it for the world... but defenders are not comfortable to ride in , lacking in mod cons ie when i bought mine a stereo was an extra . the seat adjustment is about 2 inches. The heater blows luke warm air and takes about 30 miles to get to that temperature... air con is via a flap at the front which you open with a lever ... fuel economy is about 20mpg .... but you can power hose them inside and out , they will take you anywhere you want to go , nothing will touch them on off road ability and they hold their value like nothing else .
The Freelander is for big girls, the Discovery is for taking the kids to school and the Range Rover now looks like an oversized black cab ... if he wants a serious off roader...land rover defender is the only one to consider if not i'd go with the shogun ..

Hiya personally I would use the Honda Joy Machine myself

http://www.hondauk-media.co.uk/prote.../28473hon-.jpg

image above did post but its too large for people on dial up to view the post.

The shogun is nice big comfy but expensive on repairs and thristy with that 3.0 v6 or the 2.8 Turbo Diesel.

Same for the Pajero cheaper on the fuel but again I find the maker to be expensive on parts.

The Vauxhall is just a simple avoid.

But for serious off roading the Defender is the only choice.

Thanks....my dad just wants something different...he is hardly going to be driving it off-road...is the frontera still rubbish for casual/normal driving?

basic requirements: something comfortable, easy to maintain and kinda cheap to repair.
