The gf just bought a dvd for £25 don't know from where, just for the kids bedroom, if they ( when they ) break it eventually, you can trow them away at that price

Yeah, but you get what you pay for....
I don't really see it's the same as it is with video players, i.e. the quality is the same, just the price is a lot lower - I think the quality of these lower priced players is a lot lower that your £150+ jobs
