Question Parking regulations: what are the facts?

Hello, re street parking etc, I seem to recall that if road markings are broken up or non existant then a sign does not apply & the issue of a parking ticket is deemed wrongly issued etc.

Can anyone identify the exact legal acts that refer to this?

I have tried looking but it's a minefield of gobbldeygook.

Cheers,
Zoombini.

Re: Parking regulations: what are the facts?

I watched a TV programme some time back which featured a retired guy who spent a lot of time checking yellow lines for validity. From what I remember he said that for yellow lines to be legal they had to be continuous and each end of the line be marked with a yellow line at 90 degrees to the continuous line.

An article on the subject is at http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=cac...client=firefox

Re: Parking regulations: what are the facts?

For on Public roads.

I.E. Yellow lines or white boxed lines with the 40 mins waiting signs.
Parking attendands seem to know a little but it would be great to be able to know the exact state of the law about them, especially when it comes to appealing against tickets that have been given the day after a parking attendant has said it's OK to park there

What I'm really after is finding out exactly what act/regulation the yellow/white lines & thier brokenness is from & what bit refers to it.

It would be a helpful piece of info for everyone that ever parks on broken lines.

I found The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002 but I cant spend the hours needed (while at work) to look through that & it's 160 pages long...

There is also things like the road traffic act, but which bit?

Re: Parking regulations: what are the facts?

why dont you just check the 'highway code' book? is that not the place with most of the answers in laypersons terms?

Re: Parking regulations: what are the facts?

No it's not.

It has the parking info for the signs but not the specific points of the law & does not say "you MUST not park here, unless the lines are broken up by more than 20%" etc
