Re: Mince Pies

Just seems a little odd that this is the only thread attracting any attention at the moment. Does that say something about the sort of things we think about at 01:34 in the morning?

Re: Mince Pies

I've been making my own this year using sweet orange shortcrust pastry.Haven't bothered for years but my son asked for them especially.

Got some hidden away for the 6th which is 12th Night and when we will take our deccys down and eat up the last of the Crimbo goodies.

We bought six boxes of 12 (three with brandy in them ) and have two pies left ... plus a box of mince puffs my mum brought when she visited.

Mince puff? Now there's a phrase that conjures up all sorts of images

I know - it's just been a long day!

Re: Mince Pies

Actually, in a vain attempt to get this thread back on topic (even though it was me that took it off topic ), I'm sure that I can't be the only person here who thinks that mince pies taste of death?

Oh, apparently I am - I'll be off then

i think they are like marmite, you love em or hate em. personally i think comparing the taste to death is unfair to death, but there we have it. whoever thought of emptying the contents of the expired powdered goods, mysterious brown stuff, and a few cloves, into some pastry was a good idea?

Well all shop ones taste of moth balls to me.I think it's the preservative that they use to prolong shelf life.Home made ones taste fine-especially with brandy butter.
