Look what we got for Xmas!!
Well, boxing day to be exact Just after 7pm our neighbours decided to erect what I can only describe as an ugly satellite dish on the side of the rear extension of the house they are renting.
Now I'm not one to begrudge people watching satellite telly but this dish is now pretty much the only thing we can see out of the rear window of the main room, as well as the only thing we can see out of the kitchen window and it also stares you in the face as you open the back door
To add to the ugliness the dish was installed by a friend of the neighbours so it's not professionally installed to say the least, white cables now hang from a nail in the fascia board as well as a cable tie on the arm of the LMB and to be honest it's a good thing the neighbours are short as the dish is about 6ft of the ground and about 6 inches from the fence so they would have to duck under it whenever they go into their garden
Looks like it's going to be fun trying to get them to move it or take it down as the owner of the property ignores any complaints about the tenants and the tenants themselves are of foreign origin and cannot speak english very well

Well personally I'm flattered that you thought of us enough to want to take so many photos just to show us

Re: Look what we got for Xmas!!
Planning permission is a possibility as you have to apply for permission to mount a dish if it's over 90cm or on a listed building or in an area where the local borough council is enforcing a preservation act. Unfortunately the local council people are not in the office till tomorrow (this I know for sure ) but they have been contacted by email and a picture or two will be sent as well.
As for it crossing our boundary unfortunately it is about 2-3 inches away from the boundary point so that's not going to help us but believe me we were tempted to help check it to make sure it was fastened to the wall securely last night
The only good thing is that we are looking to put a new fence up in the spring and a 6ft panel will help to block the eyesore but it will still be visible over the top of the fence due to the positioning and size
We are not impressed!!!

is 6' the limit for the height of a fence ??????? , if it was higher would it not block the signal to the lnb

It seems whoever lives in that house has an obsession with these dishes, the last lot of tenants (non English speaking Africans) dismantled their dish when they moved out, then wanted to bring it through our house because the current occupants refused to let them!!

just done a bit of research and apparently you will most likely get away with a 6' fence with a trellis on the top , it doesnt say it has to be wood , a nice bit of lead or copper should do the trick

Re: Look what we got for Xmas!!
I thought dishes for satelite telly had to be installed by the satelite company??? Do you think they are trying to get satelite telly for free??
That cable hanging down looks awfully tempting for a pair of wire cutters at 3am

Yes, that was the first thing I thought of, but how do I know if it's connected up to the mains - I don't want to get
And of course they would guess whodunnit!!

Maybe Escapee can knock something up for you, I'm sure he was on about a signal blocker recently.
