Question Orange match any tariffs

I'm with Orange for my mobile and I see they will match any tariffs the computation offer. Can anyone recommend a tariff for me that's going to save me loads.

I text about 5 times a day and use the phone cross networks for less than half an hour a day, mostly use mobile at the weekend.

My bill at the moment is about £30 a month (including line rental) which is far too much and sure I'm getting ripped.

Your help is greatly appreciated

Re: Orange match any tariffs

Note that it's selected tariffs only on Voda, 02 & T-mobile although some people have got the 3 tariffs (generally the best value) by phoning up and asking to leave; normal customer services cannot offer equivalents of 3 and, of course, you have to be out of the original 12 month contract to leave. They'll put you through to retentions who might be able to offer you a better deal.

You say you use less than 1/2 hour crossnet per day but that could still be quite a lot of minutes in total. As a comparison, £30 on 3 buys you 500 crossnet and 100 texts a month.

3 are fine if....

1) You get decent reception where you want to use the phone.

2) You never have to ring them (see www.3hell.com for more info)

The tariffs are unbeatable IMO for what you pay, plus they're currently offering loads of half price line rental deals in light of 3G offerings from all the other networks.

As I said above-Orange don't match 3's tariffs, but as Toots said, if you phone up to cancel as you are going to 3, they may well offer to match it for you (it has been known) rather than lose your custom.

£30.00 a month (£360 a year) matching a 3 tariff, is better than £0 per month year if you leave as it's so much easier to keep a customer than it is to gain one.

Good luck.

Re: Orange match any tariffs

I thought about 3, but apparently their reception is not that good in my area either. Orange is better than Vodafone for me, as vodafone has no reception when I'm in my local pub.

So unfortunately I didn't have that much of a choice.

And they have stopped matching the Virgin tarrif. 15p/3min then 5p/min 0 rental. Used to be great you would phone and switch your contract to this tarrif the minute you got out of contract, save a fortune.

3 also use 02 at their backup network so its not nessecary for you to have good 3g reception to take advantage of their tarrifs...all i know is I have saved over a £1000 over the last two years having switched to them..

The staff in their shops don`t seem that much better either. Out of the blue I got a marketing call from 3 about a week back offering me a free upgrade to my phone if I stay with them another 12 months. I had the same "discussion" with both the guy on the phone and subsequently someone in the 3 shop in Reading, how can they consider a phone to be an upgrade if it offers less functionality than the phone I already have. Half the RAM, no bluetooth, but apparently because it is a slightly smaller phone they consider that to be an upgrade. I don`t think the salesmen can cope when you tell them that the looks of the phone aren`t in any way important, what it can do is.

This is fine if you are in a crap 3 area, the problem arises if you are on the edge of a 3 area as the phone will keep trying to connect to the three network while you are trying to speak to someone and drop your call.
So a three phone is fine if you're in a really good three area or a really crap one
If you're in the middle (Like me) then I wouldn't recommend it at all.

Re: Orange match any tariffs

orange offer better tarriffs online than in the orange or other retail shops.

'exclusive on line plans'!

Re: Orange match any tariffs

If you have a carphone warehouse near you check out their own tarrif (juice). It piggybacks 02. I have the payg, but one good thing is that you get a sort of credit, then you just get a dd sorted and a bill pops through the post each month.
