People who dye their hair.

Can any one reccomend me the best product to dye my hair.
I want to do it myself and have never done it before. I'm currently brown hair but want to bleach it so I can then go to any colour I want.
Is there any products people reccomend or some I should avoid as they contain some strong chemicals ?

Oh and also, how long does it take to do ?

Thanks.

Re: People who dye their hair.

The only thing I can recommend is that you go to a hairdressers and get it done.

Sounds about right, especially if you want to bleach it then recolour it, these two processes can mean the colour reacts very differently to the hair, Mrs H had blonde streaks in her hair a while back and they could not recolour her hair with the colour she wanted until they grew out as the streaks would have gone a strange shade of orange (not ginger).

They cut some of the bleached hair off and dyed it as she did not believe them and was in shock when she saw the result.

Re: People who dye their hair.

go for a hairdresser..... or a friend who is a hairdresser... or a friend who doesn't mind helping you out

it all depends on what you want done. mine's been black for the past three years (normally i'm this horrible grey brown thing colour), and for a while it was red. it's easy enough once you get used to it. mine gets dyed from stuff you can buy in the shops, but my gf does the dying for me.

it takes about half an hour to do..

oh and you can get bleach from boots if you want to do it yourself - how long is your hair though? if its short it will be as easy as washing it, but if its long, you better go to the hairdressers!

P

PS: you have to check to see if you are allergic to it before you use it, by putting a bit of the developing lotion behind your ear for 48 hours before you try and use it

Do what I do - have a go at dying what's left and if it looks daft - shave it all off

Re: People who dye their hair.

yep yep, bleaching is a bit scary esp. if you have never done it before! You can get easy to use kits in boots, but bleaching your hair is that it takes all the colour out of it and you are left with no natural highlights so your hair look really flat and weird, its only useful if you want a really shocking all over colour with no highlights...
but also dye fades really quickly on bleached hair and you will need to dye it every 2 weeks (depending on the colour) if you still want it to stay vibrant.

Re: People who dye their hair.

My hair is quite short so it hopefully won't take too long.
If it takes about half an hour can I then go and apply a colour straight away afterwards ?
I'l check out boots tommorow and see what they have.
Thanks people.

I think when girls reach a certain age, they are taught things like that - along with how to wrap presents properly, fold napkins, and think of good presents for birthdays, etc

Where as men get taught the secret of always knowing which day the dustmen come.

We got the raw end of the deal if you ask me...
