Free Upgrade on Mobile Phone

Hi there, I know people who have managed to wangle very good phones through threatening to leave networks, etc. Well I am coming to the end of my 12 month contract on Vodafone (via Carphone Warehouse) and was wondering how I could go about getting the phone I want (when it comes out - the Nokia 6630), for free or a very low price. Any ideas welcome!

Ta

At the end of 12 months, you are normally offered a phone at a cheap upgrade price anyway, as long as you sign a new contract for 12 months.

Last year i got a Siemens SL55 free for the lady and a free Nokia 6100 for myself, and this year i have had a free Sony Ericsson K700i and a Nokia 7610 for £49.99

Re: Free Upgrade on Mobile Phone

Aah now you're asking in the right place!
I work for Account Management with Vodafone BTW...

What you should do is this:
1) Check out deals with T-Mobile, Orange etc. online and in stores.
2) Phone 191, option 3, option 2.
3) See which deal they give you and if it's not that good then...
4) Say that you've seen XXXXXXXX with a much better deal and you think you might move to them.
5) They will then try to match it to keep you as a customer.

It generally works like that because there are almost as many mobile phones as people in the UK so they're concentrating on customer retention more these days.

That worked for me last year when I was going to change to Orange, I phoned O2 and gave them a months notice, they said what for? I said I'm going over to Orange for a better deal, they said what deal are you getting? I told them plus added a bit on for good measure They said we will give you all that plus an extra 100 minutes free each month, 100 extra texts free each month plus a free upgrade with no contract to sign plus a free upgrade for the wife. I said go on then

Re: Free Upgrade on Mobile Phone

Strange thing is, this is exactly what ntl do, and they get largely pilloried for it on here.

Yet when the mobile companies do it, it's seen as a good thing.

Hmmmmmmm

Did this on Monday with Vodafone, got 6230 for free out of them for another 12 months (was going to cancel and go with them again to get the phone anyway but saved me the hassle) - I always write to them 1st cos that way you've given notice to cancel so you intend to do so rather than a half threat ringing them up on the off chance.
