Cremation Funeral Service Advice

Hi all,

Bit of a touchy one this so I will try and keep it brief.

Fortunately I do not that often have to attend funeral services but as most of my family and relatives are mainly of Catholic descent then the majority of services are burials.

However I have to attend a Cremation next week for a non family member but very close family friend and the callous employee whom i work for has insisted i return to work after ther service.

This entails a Service and Committal at the Crematorium and am hoping to glean some advice on how long this Service and Comittal lasts as it has been at least 10 years since I attended a Crematorium Service.

Thanks for any advice and apologies in advance for broaching such a touchy subject.

20 minutes to half an hour.They like to keep to schedule.I've been to no funerals and only Cremations.

This is a tough one as it all depends on what the family have planned.

This year I had to go to one to support my mother, The family had arranged a church service which lasted around 45mins then there was the chat until they was all ready to move on to the Crematorium where they continued the service for another 20 to 30 mins. After the service most stood talking about old times the good times they had shared,
Its very hard to say how long it all depends on what they have selected for songs and what is being done like we had the grandchildren talking about their grandma.

At the crematorium it will depend on how many services they have that day.You did not mention a church service so I'm pretty sure it will be a fairly brief affair even with music and a priest or vicar officiating.

I would therefore 'insist' that you are at a funeral and they can very politely get stuffed.

This expectation of employees that their entire life belongs to the company is obscene.

Tell them you are taking the whole day off to attend a funeral and they can do what they like. There is nothing they can do to you, since the law provides that you can have 'reasonable time' off (unpaid) to deal with a 'domestic crisis'.

Last one I went to was around 30 minutes for the service and another 10-20 minutes sticking them in the ground and another 30 odd minutes "socialising".

Having helped organise a cremetory service I can tell you that, at least round here, there is a strict 20 min time limit. However, the standing around outside afterwards can easily take as long again - not to mention the pub do afterwards.

Why not ring the crem and find out the local form?
